TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn women's tennis is set to compete in the Midwestern State Invitational tournament beginning Friday, Oct. 7, and running through Saturday, Oct. 8 in Wichita Falls, Tex.  

MWSU Invitational 

• The tournament will be the first non-ITA event of the season for the Ichabods 

• Washburn will compete in both the singles and doubles portions of the tournament 

• The Ichabods last participated in the tournament in 2019-20 where five players made it to the finals of their brackets  

• The tournament will begin Friday morning and run through Saturday, Oct. 8 

• Tournament brackets will be posted later  

About the Ichabods  

• Washburn returns six players from its 2021-22 roster and adds two transfers and one freshman  

• The roster is made up of three seniors, two juniors, three sophomores and one freshman  

• Graduate assistants Raul-Alin Dicu and Miller Zeiders joined head coach Kirby Ronning's staff before the season  

Last time out 

• The Ichabods competed at the ITA Regional tournament 

• Sonia Smagina won the singles title without dropping a set 

• Smagina and Lara Schmid advanced to the doubles championship before falling in the finals  

• Marta Torres and Isabella Martensson advanced to the doubles semifinals before losing to Smagina and Schmid

• The ITA Cup will take place beginning Oct. 12 in Rome, Ga. 

• Washburn will take on William Jewell College and Rockhurst University Oct. 22 in Kansas City, Mo.
