Seventeen Washburn Cross Country Student-Athletes honored by MIAA for Academic Success

KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Washburn cross country programs placed a combined 17 student-athletes on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll adding one Scholar Athlete and five Academic Excellence award winners, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
 
To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, one must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. The Ichabods honored on the MIAA Academic Honor roll were Elsa Cozine (nursing), Kelsie Dent (social work), Tessa Jeffery (biochemistry), Eve Weber (elementary education), Stacy Briggs (entrepreneurship & innovation), Avery Hoffpauir (kinesiology) and Lily Johnson (environmental biology) from the women's teams. On the men's team, Gabriel Chinya (marketing), Kael Ecord (mathematics), James Gillin (mathematics), Cooper Griffin (kinesiology), David Kibet (corrections), Collen McLain (kinesiology), Shane Mullen (exploratory), Keetan Munsell (biochemistry), Nick Petrella (marketing) and Sam Steinlicht (kinesiology) were all named to the team.

David Kibet earned MIAA Scholar-Athlete for having a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher while receiving All-MIAA honors.
 
Cozine, Dent, Jeffery, Weber and Ecord were all named to the MIAA Academic Excellence listing recording a cumulative GPA of 4.0.

The teams newcomers will be eligible for the awards at the conclusion of the spring semester after recording their two terms of attendance at Washburn.
