PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track and field team recorded two top-three finishes on the opening day of the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships while adding two 12th-place finishes in its four qualifiers.
Connor Last took second in the long jump while
Virgi Scardanzan finished third in the pole vault.
Isabella Hohl (60m) and
Josh Hopkins (long jump) both finished 12th in their respective events.
Last finished second in the long jump earning eight team points for the Ichabods and the highest individual finish by an Ichabod men's track and field qualifier at the NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championships. Last crushed the school record with a mark of 7.76m (25-05.50) in his first jump while also clearing 7.19m on his third jump and 7.34m on his fourth attempt. Coming into the national championships, Last owned the school record at 7.61m (24-11.75). Last was an outdoor All-American last season after finishing 12
th in the long jump in 2021.
Scardanzan finished third in the pole vault after clearing 4.15m (13-07.25). At Washburn Scardanzan has finished second in both the indoor and outdoor championships last season and adds a third-place finish this season. Her finish scored seven team points for the Ichabods and earned her All-American status for the fourth time in her career.
Hohl finished 12
th in the 60m dash in a time of 7.54, putting her outside of the top-eight for qualifying for the finals on Saturday. Hohl will be named a second team All-American – her first as an Ichabod.
Hopkins finished 12
th to earn second team All-American honors with a mark of 7.29m (23-11.00) in the long jump. It is his first All-American honor.
The 4x400m relay team of Hohl,
Chia Okoro, Darian Hilleman and
Lyndsay Stinson will compete in the event scheduled for Saturday night at 8 p.m. in the final event of the championships.
