TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn baseball will make a quick day trip to Northwest Missouri on Tuesday for a single MIAA game starting at 2 p.m. in Maryville.
These two teams have already faced once this year and the Ichabods picked up a 10-1 win on March 15 in Topeka.
The Ichabods are 21-8 overall this season with a 12-4 mark in conference play. Washburn took two out of three games against Missouri Western this past weekend and have now won five out of six total series this season.
Washburn is off to one of its best starts in program history as it eclipsed 20 wins in 27 games, matching the fastest route to 20 victories since the 1987 season.
Currently, Washburn's offense is batting .320 with 44 home runs, 11 triples, and 74 doubles (sixth in Division II). The team has outscored its opponents, 263-181, and produced double-figure runs in 11 games.
The pitching staff holds the second-lowest earned run average among MIAA teams with a 5.33 ERA and has recorded a conference-leading 320 strikeouts, which is 28 strikeouts ahead of the next closest team.
Northwest Missouri is coming off a series win against Northeastern State to improve its record to 8-19 (4-12 MIAA). The Bearcats hold a 2-5 record on their home field.
The Ichabods will return to Falley Field for a three-game set against No. 6-ranked Central Missouri, April 1-3.
