TOPEKA, Kan. – Washburn baseball is set to host an MIAA midweek matchup against Northwest Missouri on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Falley Field.
The Ichabods hold an overall record of 24-13 and are in a three-way tie with Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State for third place in the MIAA standings with a 14-9 mark.
This season, the Ichabods are hitting .312 with 53 home runs, which ranks fourth among MIAA teams. Washburn is also fifth in Division II with 83 doubles.
Brett Ingram is on an 11-game hitting streak and holds a .353 average while leading the squad with 54 hits and is second with 36 runs scored and 37 RBI.
On the hill, Washburn has a 5.23 ERA and is second in the league with 369 strikeouts.
Casey Steward is 4-0 and has won his last three-consecutive starts. He has a 5.06 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 10 starts and a team-high 48.0 innings pitched.
The Bearcats (14-22, 8-15 MIAA) are currently ninth in the conference standings and are coming off a series loss to Missouri Western.
Northwest Missouri's offense is hitting .254 with 25 home runs. Donovan Warren has started 35 of 36 games and leads the team with a .338 batting average, 45 hits, and 37 RBI.
The Bearcats' pitching staff holds a 5.60 ERA with 289 strikeouts. Max Spitzmiller is 4-6 in 10 starts and has thrown five complete games while logging 77.2 innings on the mound with a 3.24 ERA. He is also second in the MIAA with 76 strikeouts.
Washburn and Northwest Missouri have split the two midweek games already played this season as the Ichabods won 10-1 in Topeka on March 15 before falling 7-0 in Maryville on March 29. The teams will face each other one more time this regular season on April 19 at NWMSU.
After Wednesday's game, the Ichabods will play the next seven in a row on the road before wrapping up the regular season at home against Pittsburg State, April 29-May 1. Washburn closes out this week at Emporia State on April 14-16.
