BLUE NOTES
•The Washburn Ichabod softball team will take its 12-game overall winning streak and 18-game winning streak at Gahnstrom Field into a pair of MIAA doubleheaders starting with Missouri Southern on Friday followed by Pittsburg State on Saturday.
•The Ichabods received votes in this week's NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll coming in at No. 33.
•The Ichabods (32-11, 14-2 MIAA) have won their last 12 games coming off a 4-0 weekend of MIAA play sweeping both Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney on the road … the 12-game winning streak is the seventh-longest in the nation.
•After the sweeps over Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri earlier this month in Topeka, the Ichabods improved to 18-0 in home games this season at Gahnstrom Field …the 18-game winning streak is the fifth-longest in the nation entering this week's action … additionally, the 18 wins is the most by an Ichabod team at home since recording 19 during the 2002 season when the Ichabods were 18-2.
•The Ichabods are currently in third place in the MIAA standings at 14-2. Rogers State is 14-0 and Central Oklahoma is 13-1. Missouri Southern is fourth in the conference race at 10-4.

Brenda Holaday is in her sixth season as the Ichabod softball head coach recording a 165-112 overall record going 77-41 in MIAA contests leading the Ichabods to their first MIAA Regular Season title in her second year in 2018 and an NCAA Central Regional berth, the fourth in school history.
•In going over the 30-win plateau on their road trip to Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney, the Ichabods recorded their 15th season with at least 30 wins and the second under head coach

THE WEEK THAT WAS
•The Ichabods were 4-0 last week with sweeps over Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri last weekend.
•
Jaycee Ginter was 2-0 with a save and a 0.44 ERA striking out 23 with two walks, two complete game shutouts in 16 innings pitched improving to 21-3 on the season. In the opening game against FHSU, she struck out eight in the seven inning, complete game shutout with one walk allowing four hits in the 4-0 win. Against the Lopers in the first game, Ginter tossed another complete game shutout striking out 10 with no walks giving up one hit. In the second game against the Lopers, he pitched two innings striking out five giving up two hits allowing one earned run in relief picking up the save. Ginter also had two home runs and a .818 slugging percentage driving in five at the plate.

Marrit Mead led the Ichabods with a .500 batting average as the team was 4-0. Mead was 8 of 16 with two doubles while driving in a team-high five runs and scoring twice in sweeps over Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney. Against FHSU in the opening game she drove in two runs with three hits in the 4-0 win. In the nightcap against the Lopers, she scored a run collecting two hits.

Paige Robbins batted .400 and scored four runs.
•Washburn outhit its opponents .278 to .190 outscoring them 21 to 4.
•The Ichabod pitching staff recorded an ERA of 1.00 for the week.

Jaycee Ginter leads the nation with 21 wins season entering the weekend and is ranked fourth in total strikeouts … she already owns the Ichabod single-season strikeout mark with 217.

Paige Robbins is batting .458 and

Raegen Hamm became Washburn's all-time leader in strikeouts at Nebraska-Kearney passing Kathy Mohler who played for Washburn from 1997-2000.

MIAA PRESEASON POLL
The Washburn Ichabod softball team was tabbed sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll that was released prior to the start of the season by the league office.Â
The Ichabods picked up 117 total points trailing Missouri Western in fifth with 118 and Missouri Southern in fourth with 124. Central Oklahoma was the preseason favorite with eight first-place votes and 162 total points and Central Missouri had 158 points with six first-place votes. Rogers State was third with 142 points.

LAST TIME OUT
KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Washburn Ichabods won their 11th and 12th games in a row improving to 32-11 on the season and 14-2 in the MIAA with a doubleheader sweep over Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday.
Game 1 - WU 7, UNK 0
The Washburn Ichabods opened the twinbill with a 7-0 shutout win over the Lopers (19-18, 9-6 MIAA) as
Jaycee Ginter moved to 21-3 on the season striking out 10 and
Kimi Patterson led a 12-hit Ichabod attack with a career-high four hits.
Washburn scored its first run in the top of the second after
Hadley Kerschen doubled and then came around to score on a single by Patterson.
The Ichabods put a solo run on the board in the fourth when Patterson singled and after a single by
Maddie Stipsits,
Marrit Mead drove in Patterson with a single to left.
In the fifth the Ichabods took advantage of a Loper error as Ginter reached on an error and then after
Ashton Friend's single to left and a walk drawn by Kerschen, Ginter scored on a passed ball and Patterson's single to right scored Friend and
Jenna Moore's sac fly scored Kerschen as the Ichabods pushed their lead to 5-0.
The Ichabods wrapped up the scoring in the first game scoring two more runs on RBI singles by pinch hitter
Kaylee Wagner and Mead scoring
Autymn Schreiner and Wagner.
Ginter struck out 10 in the game holding the Lopers to one hit, a single in the fourth inning facing one over the minimum in the win while not walking any Loper batters.
In addition to Patterson's four hits, Mead and two and Kerschen scored a pair of runs.
Game 2 - WU 4, UNK 3
Washburn scored a run in the top of the first taking the early lead after
Paige Robbins doubled and then scored on a double by Friend staking the Ichabods to the 1-0 lead.
Washburn sent two more runs home in the third inning going up 3-0 after Moore reached on a single and then scored on a two-run homer by Ginter.
The Lopers scored their first run of the day in the third inning and added another run in the fourth trimming the Ichabod lead to 3-2.
In the fifth, Washburn pushed out to a two-run lead at 4-2 when Mead doubled to left and then scored when Robbins singled up the middle.
The Lopers scored a run in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at third after a triple and the winning run at first after a walk, by Ginter, who picked up her second save of the season pitching the final two innings, struck out the final Loper preserving the win.
Ashlie Thissen tossed two innings moving to 3-0 on the season and Ginter struck out five batters in two innings of work en route to the save.
Ginter drove in two of the four runs and Mead and Robbins each had two hits.

MISSOURI SOUTHERN
•The Lions are 10-4 in the MIAA and 22-15 overall and have won their last six games. Missouri Southern is two games behind the Ichabods in the conference race.
•Yazmin Williams leads the team with a .389 batting average.

•The Ichabods trail the series 45-46 … Missouri Southern swept the doubleheader last year in Joplin.

HEAD COACH BRENDA HOLADAY
•is 165-112 in her sixth season as the Ichabod head softball coach.
•coached 19 seasons at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka compiling a 351-93 record.
•led the Junior Blues to three 6A state championships as well as winning 14 league championships earning 16 6A state tournament berths, five second-place state finishes and three third-place state finishes and was inducted into the Washburn Rural High School Hall of Fame in 2018.
•was named the Centennial League Coach of the Year and City Coach of the Year nine different times earning the Midwest Sectional Coach of the Year in 2011 and the 6A Kansas Coach of the year two times in 2008 and 2011 and was named the overall Kansas Coach of the Year in 2011.
•while at Washburn Rural, she coached more than 40 players who have gone on to play college softball including three at the NCAA Division I level including former Ichabod head softball coach Lisa Carey, the winningest coach by wins in program history.
