Ichabod track and field squads at Wichita State for Woodman Classic

ON YOUR MARKS
The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track and field teams are in action this weekend at the KT Woodman Classic this week at Wichita State. The event starts with multis on Wednesday.
 
WHO'S GOING
The Ichabod women's track and field team have 22 athletes entered competing in 25 events with one relay team. On the men's side, they will have 30 athletes entered in 52 total events.
 
Last time out at the SBU Invitational
Men
BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod men's track and field team finished second at the Southwest Baptist Invitational recording a team score of 71.5 points. Washburn brought back two individual champions, 11 top-five finishes, 21 personal bests, a school record and three NCAA provisional marks. 
David Kibet crushed the Washburn school record in the 3000m in a time of 8:50.14 topping the previous best by 18 seconds en route to the individual title in Bolivar.
Romain Henry won both the semifinals and the finals of the 110m hurdles running a 13.97 time in the finals for an NCAA provisional mark. Henry also finished third in the 400m hurdles in a time of 53.47.
Connor Last and Josh Hopkins tied for second at 7.38m in the long jump for two NCAA provisional marks and a personal best for Hopkins. The 7.38m is the fifth-best in the nation this season.
Braden Rose was fourth in the discus at 47.64m and was fifth in the shot put at 15.51m. He was also sixth in the hammer throw at 54.10m.
Collen McLain was fifth in the 1500m at 3:57.75 and fifth in the 800m at 1:56.58.
Women
BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod women's track and field team wrapped up the Southwest Baptist Invitational with 10 top-five finishes, 19 personal bests and two school records on Saturday as well as adding NCAA two provisional qualifying marks.
Virgi Scardanzan won the pole vault for the second-straight week clearing an NCAA provisional mark of 4.15m tying for the best mark in the Division II ranks this season. Tassilyn Bolin recorded a personal best with a second-place showing in the event with an NCAA provisional mark of 3.75m.
Paola Castaldi finished second in the hammer throw and broke her own Washburn record for the second-straight weekend with a mark of 48.59m.
Isabella Hohl finished second in the 100m in a time of 11.79 breaking her own school record of 11.87.
Shelby Edwards was second in the javelin with a throw of 41.87m.
Taylor Gonzales (1500m) and Eve Weber (3000m steeplechase) both had third-place finishes as did the 4x400m relay team of Isabella Hohl, Darian Hillebert, Lyndsay Stinson, Chia Okoro.
Overall the women's team finished with 70.50 total points placing fifth. Missouri State (83.00), Southwest Baptist (79.50), Missouri Southern (77.00) and Lincoln (75.00) rounded out the top five teams.
 
USTFCCCA RANKINGS
The Ichabod men's track and field team was ranked 12th in the USTFCCCA Central Regional rankings up one spot from last week and 30th in the national ranking, up 77 spots from last week. The Ichabod women's team was ranked 11th, up three spots from last week in the Central Regional rankings and 41st in the national ranking, up 32 spots from last week.
 
EVENT SQUADS
The Ichabod men's long jump squad is ranked seventh in the D2 ranks and the hammer squad is as well. The Ichabod shot put group is ninth and the discus group is 11th. On the women's side, the pole vault crew is fifth and the 1500m grouping is ranked 21st.
 
COACHING
Cameron Babb has led both the Ichabod track and field teams and cross country teams to steady improvements entering year six of the revamped programs. Between cross country and the track and field programs, Babb has coached 51 all-MIAA selections, 48 all-region picks, 33 All-Americans and 43 NCAA Championship individual qualifiers and one relay team.
 
UP NEXT
Washburn be back in action at several different locations next week including the Mt. SAC Relays, the Long Beach Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational all in California and the UCM Relays in Warrensburg, Mo.
