SIOUX FALS, SD -- The No. 6 seed Ichabods face off against the second seed in Augustana (SD) in the second round of the NCAA Central Regionals on May 7 at 2 p.m.

- The women's team appears in the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time in program history and the third year straight (not including 2020)

- The Ichabods fell to the Vikings, 4-2, on March 18
- Washburn fell behind, losing the doubles point. Crohn/Torres took the advantage winning 6-2 but No. 1 and No. 2 doubles dropped their matches
- Jung tied it up early in singles play with a 6-2, 7-5 victory. Torres gave Washburn the lead with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win

First Round Recap
SIOUX FALLS, SD – Washburn women's tennis storms past Southeastern Oklahoma State, 4-0, and advances to the NCAA Central Regional Finals. The Ichabods avenge their loss to the Savage Storm back in early March.
The Ichabods (15-11) started the match strong in doubles competition. Kinsey Fields and Maja Jung finished first, defeating Vanessa Cozamanis and Sara Gonzalez, 6-3. Svea Crohn and Marta Torres finished soon after with a 6-4 win over Chiara Matteodo and Vanessa Nitu at No. 3 doubles.
No. 26 Isabella Martensson and Lara Schmid also led in their match at No. 1 doubles, 5-3, but the match was not completed due to the doubles point being clinched.
Singles competition started with retirement at No. 4 singles. Schmid won the first set against Georgia Hosking, 6-1, and was ahead 2-0 in the second set when Schmid won by retirement. Jung extended the Washburn lead with a 6-4, 6-3 straight-set victory over Gonzalez. Fields stepped into the lineup for Martensson and clinched the victory at No. 6 singles. Fields lost the first 6-3 but forced a third set when she won 6-4 in the second set. In the third set, Fields wasted no time with a 6-1 set win.
The Ichabods' victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State () sets them up to face the second seed in Augustana in Sioux Falls on Saturday at 2 p.m. A win puts the Ichabods in the NCAA Women's Tennis finals from May 17-21.

Ichabods Head Coach Kirby Ronning
- Kirby Ronning is in his second season as the Washburn head tennis coach for the Ichabods men's and women's programs after being named to the position on July 23, 2020.
- Ronning has compiled a 28-10 men's record and a 32-14 women's record while coaching at Washburn
- Prior to Washburn, Ronning spent four seasons as the assistant coach at Azusa Pacific, where he helped lead the Cougars to multiple NCAA postseason appearances and earned himself both ITA West Region's Men's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year and Women's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year
- He earned his bachelor's degree in business from Bethel University (Minn) in 2014 and his master's in physical education from Azusa Pacific in May 2020.
- Ronning also played at Bethel for four years, playing primarily at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles position.

- Monko went 7-1 with Emily Granson and 11-3 with Florentia Hadjigeorgiou. Monko and Hadjigeorgiou are ranked No. 29 and earned All-NSIC First Team honors
- Sophomore Hadjigeorgiou compiled a 19-0 No. 2 singles record and a 16-3 doubles record. She earned All-NSIC First team in singles and doubles
- The lone senior, Laura Arce Vieyra went 16-3 at No. 3 singles and a 19-3 in doubles. She also earned All-NSIC First Team in singles and doubles
- Junior Aleksandra Kistanova tallied a 20-0 singles record and 17-2 in doubles. She was tabbed Second Team All-NSIC
- Gabriela Jancikova is having a stellar freshman year going 14-2 singles record and 19-3 doubles record. She earned Second Team All-NSIC honors
- Sophomore Margarita Chouliara went 11-0 in singles from the bottom of the lineup
Vikings Head Coach Marc Kurtz
- Mark Kurtz enters his 18th season as the head women's tennis coach
- Kurtz has compiled a 252-49 record on the women's side
- He has led the women to 11 straight undefeated seasons in NSIC play, including 10 straight NSIC Tournament Championships
- The Vikings have won 129 straight regular-season NSIC matches
- Under Kurtz, Augustana has surpassed 20 wins on four occasions
- In 2011, Kurtz took the Vikings to the NCAA Round of 16 for the first time in school history
- In addition to coaching at Augustana, He is the tennis director at GreatLife Center in Sioux Falls
