JOPLIN, Mo. – The Washburn men's cross country duo of
David Kibet and
Donald Kibet turned in the best two individual performances in program history at the NCAA National Championships en route to All-American honors on Saturday at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course. David placed 22nd overall and Donald finished 28th.
David Kiibet's time of 29:57.2 was the third-fastest time in program history behind his time of 29:53.8 he ran two weeks ago at the NCAA Central Regional on the same course. At the 1K split, Kibet was 152nd and then moved up 68 spots at the 2K split. He continullay moved up at each split before making a 15-spot jump between the 4K and 6K spots. During the final 1K of the race, he moved up from 24th to 22nd.
Donald Kibet's time of 30:09.2 was two seconds off is time at the NCAA Central Regional on Nov. 4, still ranking fourth in program history in the fastest 10K's. At the 1K split, Kibet was sitting 208th overall, but jumped 136 spots at the 3K checkpoint. Throughout the race he continued to move up climbing seven spots between the 8 and the finish line at the 10K mark.
The Kibets join Jacob Klemz as the only four total All-Americans in program history. Klemz finished 29th in 2018 and was 32nd in 2017.
