No. 1 Washburn heads to Wichita for MIAA Semifinals vs Hornets on Thursday

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The No. 1 seeded Washburn soccer team heads west to Wichita for the MIAA Championship Semifinals on Thursday at 3 p.m. against Emporia State at the Stryker Sports Complex. 

KICKOFF 

  • No. 8 nationally ranked Washburn soccer continues the MIAA Championship Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will face the No. 4 seed Emporia State in the Semifinals. 
  • The Ichabods will face the Hornets at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. 


TOURNEY TIME!

  • For the final two rounds the MIAA Championship Tournament will move to the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan. 
  • The Ichabods will face the Hornets at 3:10 if the match between No. 2 Central Missouri and No. 3 Fort Hays State lasts until 2:30 
  • The Championship match will be played at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 

BOD BREAKDOWN

  • WU enters the week with a 16-2-1 record. 
  • Washburn finished the regular season 15-2-1 and won the second MIAA Regular Season Championship in program history. 
  • The Ichabods went 9-1-1 in the MIAA with the only loss coming to the Hornets in the last match of the season. 
  • Washburn set a new program record with its 16th win on Friday night, breaking the pervious high set in 2006 when WU went 15-1-6.
  • The Ichabods went 11-6-2 in 2022 and finished sixth in the MIAA. 
  • With a win Washburn would advance to the MIAA Championship Tournament for the first time in program history. 
  • The Ichabods are ranked No. 1 in the Central Region of the final NCAA Regional Rankings of the year. They moved up one spot to No. 7 nationally in the USCA rankings. 
  • The top two teams in each region host the opening two rounds of the NCAA Tournament between Nov. 16 and Nov. 20. 
  • Washburn returns 19 players from last seasons roster while adding two transfers and seven freshmen.

A LOOK AT LAST WEEK

  • Washburn began the MIAA Championship Tournament with a 3-2 win over the No. 8 seed Missouri Western state in a second overtime at Yager Stadium. 
  • The Ichabods advanced to the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament for a second time under head coach Davy Phillips and the first since the 2017 season. 
  • Lindsey Maul scored the game winning goal in the 107th minute off a scrum in the box after a corner kick. It was the first game winner of her career.  
  • Belle Kennedy as assisted by Aubrey Tanksley to score the first goal of the match for the Ichabods. 
  • Riley Wells scored the match tying goal unassisted and Raegan Wells made six saves in goal. 
  • Maul, Taylor Bockover, Josie Boyle, Lakin Rold and Mackinly Rohn all played all 110 minutes
  • After the week the Ichabods are now 9-1 in Yager Stadium, 6-1-1 in true road contests and 1-0 in neutral field matches. 

ALL CONFERENCE AWARDS

  • Washburn set a program record with nine players named to All-MIAA teams announced on Nov. 1 and won four individual awards. 
  • Davy Phillips was named the MIAA Coach of the Year for the first time in his career. 
  • Raegan Wells was named the MIAA Goalkeeper of the Year and was a first team selection.
  • Jordan Tenpas was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year and to the first team. 
  • Mackinly Rohn was picked as a Co-Freshman of the Year and was a second team member.
  • Khloe Schuckman and Belle Kennedy both earned first team recognition. Viviana Soto-Herrer was a second team member, Taylor Bockover received third team honors and Josie Boyle and Ana Muruzabal were honorable mentions. 

STACKING STATS

  • Washburn is 59th in the nation out of 251 teams averaging 1.42 assists per match, that number is second among MIAA teams. 
  • The Ichabods are 9th in the nation in win-loss-tied percentage and are first in the MIAA. 
  • WU is 51st in the nation in points per match averaging 5.32, first in the MIAA. 
  • The Ichabods are first in the MIAA in total points and are second in both assists and goals. 
  • Aubrey Tanksley and Khloe Schuckman are tied for 18th nationally in game-winning goals with four on the year. 
  • Mackinly Rohn is tied for 33rd in the nation in assists with seven and tied for 65th in assists per game. She is second in the MIAA in both categories. 
  • Muruzabal and Khloe Schuckman are both in the top-10 in the MIAA in total points with Muruzabal 6th and Schuckman 8th
  • Raegan Wells is tied for 7th in the nation and for second in the MIAA in shutouts with eleven solo and team combined.

BLUE REPORT

  • Ana Muruzabal leads Washburn in goals with seven and and in points with 17, doing so off the bench in 618 minutes of total action. Fourteen of her 21 total shots have been on goal.
  • Khloe Schuckman has 16 points on the year and is second on the team in both goals and assists with six and three respectively. She has logged 1,195 minutes and leads WU with 38 shots. She will return to the team after missing the quarterfinals match due to a red card. 
  • Mackinly Rohn leads the Ichabods with seven assists on the year. She's also scored three goals to sit third on the team with 13 points. She has started all but two matches and logged 1,147 minutes as a freshman. 
  • Viviana Soto-Herrera has five goals and two assists on the year and is third on the Ichabods with 24 shots taken. She has stared all 18 matches she has appeared in and played 1,141 total minutes. 
  • Raegan Wells has made 47 saves this season in 1,685 minutes. She has 10 solo shutouts and combined with Hailey Beck and Alli Harrington to complete an eleventh. She has a .810 save percentage on the year with 114 shots faced. She has started all 19 matches. 
  • Aubrey Tanksley has scored four goals on the year on 24 shots. All four goals have been game winners, tied for the most on the team. She has started three matches and played a total of 903 minutes. She recorded her first assist of the season on Friday. 
  • Lakin Rold leads all Ichabod non-goalies in minutes with 1,334 this season. She has started all 18 matches she has played in giving her 37 consecutive starts to begin her Washburn career. She also has one assist on the year. 
  • Riley Wells has three goals and three assists on the year. She has taken 13 total shots and has started all 19 matches while playing 971 minutes.
  • Taylor Bockover and Grace Peterson have each started all 19 matches this season, logging 1,303 and 1,020 minutes respectively. They are two of five Ichabods to start every game this season.  
  • Josie Boyle has started all 14 matches she has played in this season, she has logged 1,264 minutes with one goal.
  • Jordan Tenpas has started all 14 matches on defense she hasp played this year, logging 1,190 minutes in that time with one assist.
  • Jadyn Allen has two goals and one assist on the year, logging 689 minutes off the bench.
  • Lindsey Maul missed five matches with injuries but has accumulated 905 minutes in the other matches with seven total starts and two goals with one game-winner. 
  • Belle Kennedy has started all 19 matches playing 1,188 minutes, she is second on the Ichabods with 26 shots and has three goals and one assist.
  • Cloe Quintana has logged 847 minutes off the bench with one start and appeared in all 19 matches. 
  • All twenty-nine players on the Ichabod roster have appeared in at least one match this season.

MILESTONE MARKERS

  • Raegan Wells is 7 saves away from 333 career saves which would tie her for the most in program history. 
  • Khloe Schuckman is two points away from 50 in her career which would put her third in Washburn soccer history. 
  • Riley Wells needs one more point to reach 20 in her career. 
  • Ana Muruzabal is three points away from 20 in her Ichabod career all coming this season. 

LOOKING AHEAD

  • With a win the MIAA Tournament Championship would take place at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. 
  • The first round of the NCAA Tournament would take place on Nov. 16 at regional sites. The NCAA Women's Soccer selection show will take place Monday, Nov. 13 at 6:30 p.m. 


OPPONENT QUICK SCOUT
Match #20 - Emporia State

  • Brian Sailer leads the Hornets in his 10th season 
  • Emporia State is 10-5-4 this season and finished in fourth place in the MIAA regular season with an 8-2-1 record in conference play. 
  • The Hornets defeated the No. 5 seed Northwest Missouri State 3-0 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. 
  • ESU went 0-0-1 in neutral field matches and 5-2-3 away from home in the regular season. 
  • The Hornets went 13-6-5 last season and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Central Region Championships 
  • Mackenzie Dimarco leads ESU and all MIAA players with 37 points and 17 goals on the year. She has taken 79 shots in 1,364 minutes and also adds three assists. 
  • Hannah Woolery leads Emporia State with four asssists this season. She has also scored three goals to put her second on the team with 10 points. 
  • Joanie Westcoat leads ESU with 1,710 minutes played on the year.
  • Mackenzi Goen has made 55 saves with a .786 save percentage and four shutouts. 
  • Hadlie Lowe and Anna Burnett have each scored four goals on the year and have eight total points. 
  • The Hornets are on a six match winning streak. 
  • ESU is scoring 1.84 goals per contest while allowing 1.16 and are taking 13.7 shots per game while allowing 11.4
  • Washburn is 18-17-4 against ESU all-time dating back to to 2003. They have split the two matches this season with both matches ending 1-0. The road team has won both times.
