TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn baseball will play five games in five days starting with a three-game home series this weekend against Emporia State before hitting the road for non-conference games against Southeastern Oklahoma and Missouri Southern.
LEADING OFF
>> The series opener against the Hornets is set for Friday at 5 p.m. with game two starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The final game will take place Sunday at 1 p.m.
>> The Ichabods will then travel for two non-conference games, first going to Claremore, Okla. for a neutral site contest against Southeastern Oklahoma on Monday at 4 p.m. before going to No. 17 Missouri Southern on Tuesday evening for another 4 o'clock game. There will be no video live stream for Monday's game.
>> The Ichabods (21-16, 14-9 MIAA) completed a three-game season sweep of Northwest Missouri on Tuesday after holding on for a 6-5 victory.
>> The Hornets have lost three in a row and are 15-24 (9-15 MIAA).
>> Washburn went 3-1 against Emporia State last season, with two of those victories being run-rule wins.
>> Washburn's first win of the season was against the Savage Storm on Feb. 4 in Hot Springs, Ark.
>> The Ichabods hosted Missouri Southern for three games last month and the Lions took two out of three.

ON THE MOUND
>> The Ichabod pitching staff has a 5.80 ERA and 328 strikeouts.
>> Chase Torkelson improved to 6-2 on the season after picking up the win at Northwest Missouri on Tuesday. He went seven innings, allowing only the two runs in the first inning, five hits, one walk, and struck out a season-high eight. He recorded four 1-2-3 innings out of his seven that he pitched.
>> Torkelson has made 14 overall appearances with two starts and has a 5.97 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings.
>> Rane Pfeifer is 3-2 with a 4.10 ERA after throwing 52 2/3 frames in 10 starts. He leads the league in opponent batting average at a low .187 and has allowed the fewest hits with 34.
>> Casey Steward has also made 10 starts and is 2-3 with one complete game. He has a 4.71 ERA after hurling a team-high 57 1/3 innings and leads the conference and ranks eighth in Division II with 75 strikeouts. Steward has recorded six or more strikeouts in eight of his starts.
>> Charlie Kiefer picked up his fourth save of the season on Tuesday and is 1-2 in 30 1/3 innings spread out across 14 games. He has struck out 23 and has a 5.04 ERA.
BODS AND ENDS
>> Washburn is currently tied for fourth in the MIAA standings alongside Central Oklahoma.
>> The Ichabods hit three home runs against the Bearcats on Tuesday, marking the second time this season with a trio of home runs in one game...the other time that has happened this year was on Feb. 20 against Concordia-St. Paul.
>> Book is batting .452 with runners in scoring position and when there are two outs, he is hitting .364.
>> Savage has collected 23 two-out RBI.
MILESTONE WATCH
>> Watkins is four runs shy of having scored 100 runs since joining the Ichabods last season.

EMPORIA STATE HORNETS
>> The Hornets finished 2022 with a record of 21-31 (13-20 MIAA) and saw their season come to an end in the MIAA tournament first round at Central Missouri.
>> Through 39 games, Emporia State is currently last among MIAA teams with a .248 batting average. They have also recorded 53 doubles, 10 triples, and 44 home runs.
>> Noah Geekie leads the team hitting .330 and slugging .495 with 30 hits, which includes five doubles, two triples, and two home runs. He has struck out only eight times in 91 at bats.

>> Nate Mieszkowski leads the MIAA with 68 hits and 57 runs scored while hitting .384 with 12 home runs and nine doubles.
