BLUE NOTES
• The Washburn Ichabod softball team finishes off the regular season on Saturday hosting Emporia State in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Gahnstrom Field in Topeka.
• It will also be the final home games for four Ichabod seniors -
Jenna Moore,
Paige Robbins,
Hadley Kerschen and
Kimi Patterson.
• The Ichabods (35-13, 14-10 MIAA) went 2-2 last weekend after splitting both ends of a doubleheader at Northeastern State and Rogers State.
•
Brenda Holaday is in her seventh season as the Ichabod softball head coach recording a 213-129 overall record going 103-51 in MIAA contests leading the Ichabods to their first two MIAA Regular Season titles (2018, 2022), and NCAA Central Regional berths in those years as well, the fourth and fifth in school history.
• With her 213 wins at Washburn, Holaday has passed Kim Newbern for second on the all-time wins chart. Lisa Carey is the all-time winningest coach by victories at 256.
• The Ichabods have recorded their 19th, 30-win season in program history and their third under Holaday.
• The Ichabods finished the 2022 season with a 45-15 mark going 24-2 in the MIAA winning their third MIAA regular season title while earning an at-large bid for their fifth NCAA postseason tournament with a runner-up finish at the MIAA Championship Tournament.
• Washburn was tabbed second in the MIAA Preseason Coaches poll behind the defending NCAA Division II Champion Rogers State, who finished second in the MIAA regular season standings and topped the Ichabods in the MIAA Tournament Championship game.
• In 2022, the Ichabods recorded their first 40-win season since 2002 when the Ichabods went 48-11 giving the Ichabods four seasons with at least 40 wins - 41 (1999), 48 (2002) and 50 (1986) and 2022's 45 wins.

Marrit Mead is 25th in the nation in hits with 65 while her hit total is second in the MIAA and her batting average of .414 is fourth while her 26 stolen bases is fourth in the conference rankings.

Jaycee Ginter is fifth in the nation with 23 wins in the circle while leading the MIAA in victories. She is fifth in strikeouts in the nation with 230. Ginter is first in the nation in pitching appearances with 40. On the active career charts, Ginter is 10th in strikeouts with 620.
• The Ichabods have gone 11-2 when hitting at least one home run and 30-3 when scoring at least three runs.
• This season the Ichabods have outscored opponents in every inning except the seventh (16 to 16). Overall Washburn has outscored opponents 229 to 123 this season.
• When Washburn scores first they are 25-5 and 20-4 when they score in the first inning.
• When the Ichabods lead after the fourth inning they are 26-2 and 22-0 when leading after the fifth inning and 25-0 when leading after the sixth inning.
THE WEEK THAT WAS
• The Ichabods were 2-2 last week splitting doubleheaders at Northeastern State and Rogers State.

Danielle Schlader led the team with a .583 batting average driving in a team-high 5 RBI with a team-best seven hits going 7 for 12 for the weekend.

Ellington Hogle had 3 RBI and four hits and
Jaycee Ginter scored three runs.
• The Ichabods hit .234 as a team and recorded a 3.18 ERA compared to their opponents .238 batting average and 2.12 ERA.
LAST TIME OUT
CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabods fell 8-0 in the opener to No. 8-ranked Rogers State coming back in the second game picking up a 4-1 win over the Hillcats. Washburn will return to Gahnstrom Field hosting Emporia State on April 29 in its final home games of the season starting at 1 p.m.
Game 1 – #8 RSU 6, WU 0
The Washburn Ichabods were limited to three hits as
Danielle Schlader came up with two of those as the Ichabods fell 6-0 in the opener to the Hillcats.
Rogers State scored runs in each inning but the fourth as they improved to 38-8 in the first game.
Schlader had hits in the second and the fourth and
Jaden LaBarge had the third and final hit for the Ichabods in the seventh.
Sheyenne Cheek fell to 5-2 throwing 132 pitches striking out three.
Game 2 – WU 4, #8 RSU 1
After the Hillcats took a 1-0 lead after their first at-bat on an unearned run, the Ichabods came back with a run of their own to tie the score.
Jaycee Ginter started the inning with a single and then came around to score on a double down the line by
Hadley Kerschen.
In the third, the Ichabods (35-13, 14-10 MIAA) took a 2-1 lead when Schlader picked up an RBI single scoring
Ellington Hogle who singled leading off the inning. The fourth inning Washburn pushed its lead to 4-1 taking advantage of a Hillcat miscue when
Kimi Patterson scored when LaBarge reached on a fielding error and then Schlader again connected on a 0-0 pitch count with a single up the middle scoring Mead to walked in the inning.
The score remained the same through the fifth and sixth innings. In the seventh, the Hillcats (38-9, 15-7 MIAA) loaded the bases with no outs, but Ginter, who moved to 23-7 in the circle pitched out of the jam with a flyout, a fielder's choice at home and a ground out to end the game finishing Rogers State's five game winning streak.
Schlader and Ginter both had two of Washburn's eight hits with Schlader driving in two.
