BLUE NOTES
• The Washburn Ichabod softball team postseason starts on Wednesday at the Envista Softball Complex at Lake Shawnee in Topeka as the No. 5 seed at the MIAA Tournament where they will face the No. 4-seeded Central Missouri Jennies at 3 p.m.
• The Ichabods (36-14, 14-10 MIAA) wrapped up the season last weekend splitting with Emporia State on senior day at Gahnstrom Field.
• Washburn swept the Jennies (32-19, 16-10 MIAA) in a pair of 2-1 wins in Topeka on March 25 in Topeka.
•
Brenda Holaday is in her seventh season as the Ichabod softball head coach recording a 214-130 overall record going 104-52 in MIAA contests leading the Ichabods to their first two MIAA Regular Season titles (2018, 2022), and NCAA Central Regional berths in those years as well, the fourth and fifth in school history.
• With her 214 wins at Washburn, Holaday has passed Kim Newbern for second on the all-time wins chart. Lisa Carey is the all-time winningest coach by victories at 256.
• The Ichabods have recorded their 19th, 30-win season in program history and their third under Holaday.
• The Ichabods finished the 2022 season with a 45-15 mark going 24-2 in the MIAA winning their third MIAA regular season title while earning an at-large bid for their fifth NCAA postseason tournament with a runner-up finish at the MIAA Championship Tournament.
• Washburn was tabbed second in the MIAA Preseason Coaches poll behind the defending NCAA Division II Champion Rogers State, who finished second in the MIAA regular season standings and topped the Ichabods in the MIAA Tournament Championship game.
• In 2022, the Ichabods recorded their first 40-win season since 2002 when the Ichabods went 48-11 giving the Ichabods four seasons with at least 40 wins - 41 (1999), 48 (2002) and 50 (1986) and 2022's 45 wins.

IN THE MIAA TOURNAMENT
• The Ichabods are making their 27th MIAA Tournament appearance and have compiled a 37-52 record in the MIAA Tournament dating back to the 1991 season when Washburn was first eligible for the event.
• Washburn was 3-2 in the 2022 MIAA Tournament reaching the MIAA Championship game.

Emporia State • The Ichabods trail the ESU in tournament match ups 10-3. Washburn opened the 2022 MIAA Tournament with a win over the Hornets in a 8-0 victory in five innings.
Fort Hays State • The Ichabods lost the only meeting in MIAA Tournament play to the Tigers on May 7, 2011 in a 5-3 loss.
Lincoln • The Ichabods are 3-0 against the Blue Tigers.
Missouri Southern • The Lions lead the conference tournament match ups 5-2.
Missouri Western • The Ichabods are 4-9 against the Griffons in MIAA Tournament meetings winning both meetings in the 2022 Tournament.
Northeastern State • Washburn is 0-1 against the RiverHawks.
Northwest Missouri • Washburn is 3-2 against the Bearcats winning the last meeting on May 6, 2011 with a walk-off grand slam.
Pittsburg State • The Ichabods have played the Gorillas the most in the tournament, nine times with the series tied 5-5. The Ichabods last played the Gorillas in the opening round of the 2015 tournament.
Rogers State • The Ichabods are 0-2 against Rogers State falling on May 7, 2022 in a 2-1 loss and the following day in the MIAA Championship game in a 4-2 loss in nine innings.

Marrit Mead is 50th in the nation in hits with 65 while her hit total is fifth in the MIAA and her batting average of .396 is sixth while her 26 stolen bases is fourth in the conference rankings.

Jaycee Ginter is seventh in the nation with 23 wins in the circle while leading the MIAA in victories. She is fifth in strikeouts in the nation with 236. Ginter is first in the nation in pitching appearances with 41. On the active career charts, Ginter is 10th in strikeouts with 626.
• The Ichabods have gone 12-2 when hitting at least one home run and 31-3 when scoring at least three runs.
• This season the Ichabods have outscored opponents in every inning except the seventh (16 to 16). Overall Washburn has outscored opponents 234 to 128 this season.
• When Washburn scores first they are 25-5 and 20-4 when they score in the first inning.
• When the Ichabods lead after the fourth inning they are 26-2 and 22-0 when leading after the fifth inning and 25-0 when leading after the sixth inning.

• The Ichabods were 1-1 last week splitting a doubleheader with Emporia State on senior day.

Kaylee Wagner's two-out, two-run homer to left pushed the Ichabods to a 3-1 win in the nightcap as the Ichabods earned the split in nine innings in game two with the Hornets. Wagner entered the game as a pinch hitter and took the 0-1 pitch over the left field fence scoring Schriener as well who reached on a fielder's choice for the walk-off win.

Sadie Walker pitched all nine innings scattering five hits allowing one earned run to improve to 8-4 in the circle.
LAST TIME OUT
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team wrapped up the regular season splitting a doubleheader falling 4-2 in the opener before using a walk-off home run for a 3-1 winner in extra innings in game two. Washburn opens the MIAA Postseason Tournament on Wednesday at Lake Shawnee.
Game 1 – ESU 4, WU 2
The Hornets scored in both the second and third innings taking a 2-0 lead before Washburn got on the board in the fourth inning.
In the fourth,
Paige Robbins led off the inning with a single and
Danielle Schlader followed that with a single of her own,
Autymn Schreiner singled loading the bases for
Kaylee Wagner. After an eight-pitch at bat, Wagner drew a walk scoring Robbins with the bases juiced cutting the lead in half at 2-1.
Mead then reached on a fielder's choice to left field as Schreiner was called out at third but
Gracie Gallagher scored tying the score at 2-2.
In the sixth, the Hornets added two runs taking a 4-2 lead as the Ichabods left a combined three runners on in their at bats in the sixth and seventh as the Ichabods fell in the opener 4-2.
Schlader had two of the Ichabods' eight hits in the game. Ginter fell to 23-8 in the circle striking out six giving up six hits.
Game 2 – WU 3, ESU 1 (9 innings)

The Hornets (33-21, 13-13 MIAA) took a 1-0 lead with a one-out single in the top of the fourth, but the Ichabods came back in the bottom of the inning tying the score at 1-1 on a sac fly by Ginter driving in
Ellington Hogle who doubled to start the inning for the Ichabods.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Ichabods (36-14, 15-11 MIAA) began in the inning with a single to left by Ginter who was replaced for a pinch runner in
Allison Hemsath. After a fielder's choice by Schreiner,
Erin Boles entered as a pinch hitter and lined out to center field for the second out before Wagner ended the game with her third home run of the season.
