Ichabods pick up 2 All-Americans on day 1 of NCAA Championships

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track and field team opened the NCAA Outdoor Championships with two second-team All-Americans in four completed events hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo. The second day of action will continue on Friday.
 
Braden Rose picked up his second All-America award of his career by finishing ninth in the hammer throw. With his third throw of the day, Rose put up a mark of 61.61 (202-01) breaking his own school record by eight inches. Rose finished 10th during the outdoor season in the discus last year. Overall this trip to the national meet was Rose's second.
 
Josh Hopkins was making his fifth NCAA appearance in the long jump and finished 15th overall with a mark of 7.27m (23-10.25) on his third and final jump. After fouling on his first attempt, Hopkins jumped 7.12m (23-04.50) on his second attempt. 
 
Isabella Hohl, competing in her fifth NCAA National Championship and her third in an outdoor venue, finished 12th overall in a time of 11.76 to secure her third All-American award and her first in the outdoor season. This season, she was a first-team All-American in the 60m indoor and picked up a second-team honoree this season in the 100m today.
 
Making her first NCAA appearance, Kim Smith finished 18th in the long jump. Of her three marks, her best jump came on her second attempt with a distance of 5.73m (18-08.75). Her other two jumps were 5.60m on her fist jump and her third and final mark of 5.64m.
 
Washburn's heptathlete, Naiuri Krein wrapped up the first day of her multi event in her first NCAA appearance and sits in 15th-place after the opening day of competition. She has recorded 2,672 points entering the final three events on Friday. Krein finished 16th in the 100m hurdles to start the day in a time of 16.10 earning 702 points. In the second event of the day in the high jump, Krein finished 14th with a mark of 1.53m (5-00.25) earning 655 points. Krein had her best showing of the day in the shot put finishing fifth with a throw of 11.72m (38-05.50) gaining 643 points. In the final event of the day, Krein finished 15th in the 200m in a time of 27.48 for 672 points.
