Washburn travels to face Emporia State and Nebraska-Kearney in non-conference matches

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn soccer heads back on the road to face Emporia State at 7 p.m. on Friday in the first 2023 edition of the Turnpike Tussle and Nebraska-Kearney at 2 p.m. 
 

KICKOFF 

Washburn Ichabod soccer heads back on the road for two non-conference matchups this weekend against Emporia State and Nebraska-Kearney.  

Washburn will take on the Hornets at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 15 and the Lopers at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sep. 17. 
 

BOD BREAKDOWN

Washburn is 3-1-0 so far in the 2023 season. 

The Ichabods went 11-6-2 in 2022 and finished sixth in the MIAA. 

Washburn has scored 4+ goals in back-to-back games for the first time since Sep. 8-14, 2007 when they scored four against West Texas A&M and six against Emporia State.

The Ichabods were picked sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll. 

Washburn returns 19 players from last seasons roster while adding two transfers and seven freshmen.

A LOOK AT LAST WEEK

Washburn went 2-0 on the week in the first two home matches of the season. On Friday the Ichabods took a 4-0 decision over Southwest Minnesota State followed by a 4-1 win over Wayne State College on Sunday. 

Washburn allowed only seven shot attempts combined while they got off 25 shots, including a season-high 17 in the win over the Mustangs. 

Mackinly Rohn notched three assists on Friday, tying the Washburn program record. It was only the fourth three assist game in program history and the first since 2009. 

Ana Muruzabal had three goals combined in the two games and added an assist, scoring her first seven points as an Ichabod. 

Rohn and Lindsey Maul each scored their first career collegiate goals on Sunday

STACKING STATS

Washburn is tied for 15th in the nation out of 225 teams averaging 2.25 assists per match, that number is first among MIAA teams. 

Scoring 7.75 points per game has the Ichaobds tied for 21st nationally out of 239 teams and first among all MIAA schools.  

Washburn is first in the MIAA in total goals, points and assists. Nationally they are tied for the top-13 in each category. 

Mackinly Rohn is tied for 4th nationally by averaging one assist per match and she is tied for second in total assists with four. Among MIAA players she is first in both categories. 

Ana Muruzabal is tied for 12th nationally scoring one goal per match and is tied with one other player for the lead in the conference. 
 

BLUE REPORT

Ana Muruzabal leads Washburn with three goals and points (7) in only 90 minutes of total action, of her four shots on goal three have gone for goals. 

Khloe Schuckman has five points on the year with two goals and one assist in 272 minutes. She missed most of the second half of the game against Wayne State with an injury. 

Mackinly Rohn leads the Ichabods with four assists on the year, she also has one goal all of which came last weekend. She has made two starts and played 214 minutes as a freshman. 

Viviana Soto-Herrer has one goal and one assist on the year, starting all four matches and playing 253 total minutes. 

Riley Wells also has a goal and an assist this season. She has taken three total shots and has also started all four matches. 

Lindsey Maul leads all Ichabods with 325 minutes as a freshman. She scored her first career goal on Sunday and has started all four matches. 

Aubrey Tanksley scored her first collegiate goal and goal at Washburn on Sunday, the game winner, she has played 194 total minutes. 

Jadyn Allen scored a goal over the weekend, her first of the season, she has played 120 minutes off the bench 

Belle Kennedy leads Washburn with 10 total shots and six shots on goal. She has played 255 minutes and started all four matches. 

Lakin Rold has one assist on the year and is second on the Ichabods playing 315 minutes. 

Raegan Wells has made four saves this season in 315 minutes. She has one full shutout and combined with Hailey Beck and Alli Harrington to complete a second shutout. 

Taylor Bockover and Grace Peterson have each started all four games this seaosn, logging 225 and 191 minutes respectively. 

Twenty-eight players have made appearences for the Ichabods this season, every player not currently sidelined with an injury.

LOOKING AHEAD

Washburn will be back home next week facing Fort Hays State and the Lopers again, the match against Nebraska-Kearney will be the first MIAA match for the Ichabods. 

The MIAA Championship Tournament begins on Friday, Nov. 3 with the quarterfinals taking place on campus sites of top-4 seeds

Match #5 - at Emporia State

  • Brian Sailer leads the Hornets in his 10th season 
  • Emporia State is 0-2-2 this season after a 3-1 loss at Eckerd College
  • The Hornets went 13-6-5 last season and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Central Region Championships 
  • Mackenzie Dimarco leads ESU in shots and shots on goal with 16 and eight respectively. She has scored one goal in 343 minutes.  
  • Hadlie Lowe has scored the only other goal of the year for the Hornets, taking eight total shots with three on target. 
  • Joanie Westcoat has played all 360 minutes on defense for Emporia State, she has also taken two shots on goal.

Match #6 - at Nebraska-Kearney 
  • Rom Bretonis in his second season as head coach of the Lopers. 
  • Nebraska-Kearney is 1-3-0 on the season following a 2-0 loss vs Drury at home. 
  • Last season the Lopers were 0-15-3 and 0-9-2 in the MIAA
  • Nebraska-Kearney is 1-1-0 in true home contests this season
  • Four different Lopers have scored one goal this season, Cammie Davis, Corynnee Olsen, Emily Flowers and Sarah Levy. 
  • Levy leads Nebraska-Kearney with five total shots, while Olsen has the most shots on goal with three. 
  • Lily Engeman leads the Lopers in minutes played overall with 343 as a defender, she has one assist on the year. 
  • Mackenzie Smith is averaging 1.91 goals allowed per game and has made 15 saves on the year 
  • Nebraska-Kearney is averaging one goal a game on 7.5 shots while opponents are scoring two goals and taking 13 shots.
  • The Lopers will face FHSU on Friday before hosting the Ichabods. 
  • Washburn is 13-3-3 against Nebraska-Kearney all-time going back to 2012, they have won the last six matches and 11 of the last 12.
