Ichabods host Hays to finish non-conference and open MIAA play against Lopers on Sunday

TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn soccer concludes non-conference action against Fort Hays State on Friday at 6 p.m. at Yager Stadium before hosting the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the first MIAA contest of the season. 

KICKOFF

  • Washburn soccer returns back home to finish off the non-conference schedule against Fort Hays State and play its first MIAA contest of the 2023 season against the Tigers. 
  • Washburn will take on the Tigers at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 22 and the Lopers at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sep. 23. 
 

BOD BREAKDOWN

  • Washburn is 5-1-0 so far in the 2023 season. 
  • The Ichabods went 11-6-2 in 2022 and finished sixth in the MIAA. 
  • Washburn has won four straight matches for the first time since the first four games to open the season in 2021. 
  • The Ichabods were picked sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll. They received the same ranking in the first United Soccer Coaches poll for the Central Region. 
  • Washburn returns 19 players from last seasons roster while adding two transfers and seven freshmen.

A LOOK AT LAST WEEK

  • Washburn extended its winning streak to four matches over the weekend beginning with a 1-0 win over Emporia State at Emporia High School followed by a 2-1 victory over Nebraska-Kearney in the Cornhusker state on Sunday. 
  • Washburn scored all of its goals in the second half of both matches, and did not allow a goal through the first 178 minutes of the weekend. 
  • Raegan Wells started and won both games in goal over the weekend giving her the new Washburn program record with 32 wins as a goalkeeper. She also had six saves. 
  • Ana Muruzabal scored the game-winner against the Hornets on Friday night, it was her third straight match that she had scored a goal. 
  • The Ichabods took 20 combined shots over the weekend and allowed only 11
  • After the week the Ichabods now 2-1 in road contests 

STACKING STATS

  • Washburn is 28th in the nation out of 239 teams averaging 1.67 assists per match, that number is first among MIAA teams. 
  • Scoring 2.33 goals per game the Ichabods are second among all MIAA teams in that category and 36th in the nation OUT 
  • Washburn is first or tied for first in the MIAA in Win/Loss/Tied percentage and total points.
  • Mackinly Rohn is tied for 15th nationally by averaging .67 assists per match and she is tied for sixth in total assists with four. Among MIAA players she is first in both categories. 
  • Ana Muruzabal is 37th in the nation and third in the conference with nine total points on the year. She is also seventh in the nation in shot accuracy with 80% of shots going on goal.

BLUE REPORT

  • Ana Muruzabal leads Washburn in goals with four and in points with 9, doing so in only 175 minutes of total action. Eight of her 10 total shots have been on goal, with half of them going for goals. 
  • Khloe Schuckman has seven points on the year with three goals and one assist in 409 minutes. She leads the Ichabods with 13 total shots taken on the year. 
  • Mackinly Rohn leads the Ichabods with four assists on the year, she also has one goal. She has made four starts on the year with three in a row, and has played 334 minutes as a freshman. 
  • Aubrey Tanksley has scored two goals on the year on only five total shots, both goals have been game-winners. She has started two matches and played a total of 274 minutes. 
  • Viviana Soto-Herrera has one goal and one assist on the year, starting all six matches in the midfield and playing 388 total minutes. 
  • Lakin Rold leads all Ichabod non-goalies in minutes with 478 this season. She has started all six matches giving her 25 consecutive starts to begin her Washburn career. She also has one assist on the year. 
  • Riley Wells also has a goal and is second on the team with two assists this season. She has taken five total shots and has also started all six matches. 
  • Taylor Bockover and Grace Peterson have each started all six games this seaosn, logging 360 and 282 minutes respectively. 
  • Raegan Wells has made 10 saves this season in 495 minutes. She has one two shutouts and combined with Hailey Beck and Alli Harrington to complete a third. 
  • Lindsey Maul has missed the last two matches but has started in all four matches she has played, logging 325 minutes with one goal. 
  • Jadyn Allen has one goal on the year and has logged 220 minutes off the bench 
  • Belle Kennedy has started all six matches playing 368 minutes, she is second on the Ichabods with 12 shots this season. 
  • Josie Boyle and Katie Kamies both started their first two games of the season last weekend, playing 175 and 170 minutes respectively.
  • All twenty-nine players on the Ichabod roster have appeared in at least one match this season 

MILESTONE MARKERS

  • Khloe Schuckman is one point away from 40 career points and five goals away from 20 in her career 
  • Raegan Wells needs 11 more saves for 300 in her career 
  • Belle Kennedy is four goals away from 10 career goals

LOOKING AHEAD

  • Washburn will stay at home next week for to complete a four-match homestand by taking on Rogers State and Northeastern State, the match against the RiverHawks is a Pink Out Game Presented by Stormont Vail Health. 
  • The Ichabods end the regular season at home against Emporia State on Oct. 29 which will be senior day
  • The MIAA Championship Tournament begins on Friday, Nov. 3 with the quarterfinals taking place on campus sites of top-4 seeds

Match #7 - vs Fort Hays State

  • Tyson John is in his second season leading the Tigers
  • Fort Hays State is 4-0-2 on the season after a 1-1 draw vs Emporia State. They have not played a road contest this season. 
  • The Tigers went 11-3-7 last season and 5-1-5 in the MIAA. They lost in the semifinals of the MIAA tournament and the first round of the NCAA Regionals. 
  • Hannah Mares has 10 points on five goals this season, both tops on the Tigers. She has played 268 total minutes. 
  • Montserrat Diaz has two goals and an assist in 396 minutes. 
  • Emily Hutchings and Reilly Madden lead Fort Hays State in non-goalie minutes with 533 and 531 respectively. 
  • Sullivan Kelly and Gracen Chaney each have two assists. 
  • Isabel Robben has 15 saves for the Tigers, she allows .33 goals per game. 
  • FHSU is scoring 1.67 goals per contest on 19.3 shots while allowing .33 goals and only six shots. 
  • Washburn is 6-12-2 against Fort Hays State all-time dating back to 2011. They split the season series in 2022. 

Match #8 - vs Nebraska-Kearney

  • Rob Breton is in his second season as head coach of the Lopers. 
  • Nebraska-Kearney is 1-5-0 on the season following a 2-1 home loss to the Ichabods last Sunday
  • Last season the Lopers were 0-15-3 and 0-9-2 in the MIAA
  • Nebraska-Kearney is 0-3 in road contests this season
  • Corynee Olsen leads the Lopers with two goals and four points on the year. Three other players have each scored one goal. 
  • Katie Pagel has two assists to lead Nebraska-Kearney in the passing department. 
  • Lily Engeman leads the Lopers in minutes played overall with 523 as a defender, she has one assist on the year. 
  • Susie Bovaird has started the last two games in goal, she has 12 saves on the year and averages allowing 1.72 goals per match. 
  • Nebraska-Kearney is averaging .83 goals per game on 6 shots while opponents are scoring 1.83 goals and taking 13.8 shots.
  • The Lopers will face Emporia St. on Friday before playing Washburn.
