No. 22 Ichabod soccer returns home to face Lions and Gorillas

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod women's soccer team will return to Yager Stadium this weekend to welcome the Missouri Southern Lions and the Pittsburg State Gorillas to Topeka for MIAA conference play. The Ichabods, ranked No. 22 in the latest USC National poll, will face the Lions at 6 pm. on Friday, Oct. 11. Washburn will battle Pittsburg State for the first time in the Gorillas' history on Sunday, Oct. 13, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.


--- KICKOFF ---

  • Washburn Ichabod soccer returns to Yager Stadium with conference matches against Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State.
  • Washburn will take on the Lions at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 and the Gorillas at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13.

--- BOD BREAKDOWN ---

  • Washburn is 5-2-2 so far in the 2024 season.
  • The Ichabods are currently in a tie for third place in the MIAA with seven points and a 2-0-1 record.
  • Washburn is ranked 22nd in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division II Women's National poll.
  • The Ichabods were picked first in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll with 137 points.
  • Washburn returns 27 players from last year's national runner-up team, while adding two transfers and one freshman to the roster.

--- A LOOK AT LAST WEEK ---

  • Washburn played only one game last week, a 3-0 road win over Nebraska-Kearney.
  • The Ichabods started off slowly, but opened up the second half quickly with a 46th minute goal from Belle Kennedy. Khloe Schuckman and Jadyn Allen also added goals in the victory.
  • Washburn knocked off the previously unbeaten Lopers, who were 4-0-4 entering the contest.

--- STACKING STATS ---

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Hailey Beck is tied for fourth nationally with six shutouts posted in goal. Beck is also 24th in goals against average with a 0.455 mark.
  • Washburn ranks sixth in Division II in corner kicks taken per game. The Ichabods have taken 72 corner kicks for an average of 8.00 per game.
  • Washburn ranks 49th in Division II in save percentage. Three Ichabod goalkeepers have tallied 21 total saves, good for a save percentage of 0.840.

--- BLUE REPORT ---

  • Junior Belle Kennedy started things off quickly in the second half with her 46th minute goal against Nebraska-Kearney. Kennedy sits in a tie for second on the team with two goals scored this season.
  • Junior defender Shaye Taylor assisted on Kennedy's goal. The assist was Taylor's first in a Washburn uniform.
  • Senior Khloe Schuckman scored on a long strike to put the Ichabods up 2-0 against Nebraska-Kearney.  The goal was Schuckman's second of the season and the 27th of her career.
  • Aubrey Tanksley notched her first assist of the season with a cross that led to Schuckman's goal. Tanksley recorded two assists last season.
  • Senior Jadyn Allen scored her first goal of the 2024 season with a header in the 83rd minute. It was the sixth goal of Allen's career after she scored three goals as a junior last season.
  • Cloe Quintana earned an assist with a high pass that took a bounce in front of the Loper goal, giving Allen a clear chance to score. It was Quintana's first career assist, after the senior scored her first career goal earlier in the season.

  • Khloe Schuckman is three goals away from 30 goals for her career.
  • Mackinly Rohn is two points away from 20 points for her career.
  • Jadyn Allen is 48 minutes away from 2,500 minutes played for her career.
  • Hailey Beck is 169 minutes away from 1,000 minutes played for her career.
  • Josie Boyle is 16 minutes away from 3,000 minutes played for her career.
  • Belle Kennedy is 22 minutes away from 3,000 minutes played for her career.

  • The MIAA Championship Tournament begins on Sunday, Nov. 10 with the quarterfinals taking place on campus sites of top-4 seeds.

Match #10 - Missouri Southern

  • The Lions are coached by Sadé Boswell in her third season.
  • MSSU is 1-5-4 this season with a 0-2-2 record in conference play.
  • The Lions are coming off a 0-0 draw at home against Rogers State on Oct. 6.
  • Junior midfielder Nathalia Luiz leads the team with three goals scored this season.
  • Luiz, Jilliana Reese, and Zujeily Romero have each recorded one assist.
  • Senior defender Sofia Fatino leads all outfield players with 879 minutes played.
  • Sophomore Bella Smith has played all 900 minutes in goal for the Lions this season, tallying 61 saves. Smith has a goals against average of 1.50.
  • MSSU has taken 64 shots this season, with 39 coming on goal. The Lions have a shots on goal percentage of 0.609.
  • Washburn is 14-9-6 all-time against MSSU. The last meeting came on Oct. 13, 2023, a 2-0 win for the Ichabods at Yager Stadium. Riley Wells and Ana Muruzabal scored the goals for Washburn.

Match #11 - Pittsburg State

  • The Gorillas are coached by Wes Branstetter in the program's inaugural season.
  • The first roster in PSU women's soccer history consists of 21 true freshmen and 16 transfers.
  • PSU is 4-4-2 this season with a 0-2-2 record in MIAA play.
  • The Gorillas are coming off a 3-1 road loss to Northeastern State on Oct. 6.
  • PSU will face Emporia State on Friday, Oct. 11 before traveling up the Turnpike to face Washburn.
  • Freshman River Riley leads the Gorillas with three goals scored.
  • Senior McKenna Robinson has tallied seven assists for PSU, which is tied for fifth in Division II as of Oct. 8.
