Ichabods face Bronchos in NCAA Tournament First Round

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod women's soccer team begins NCAA Tournament play with a Central Region match-up with the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. The Ichabods, who are playing in the tournament for the second consecutive season, will face the Bronchos on Friday, Nov. 22 in Warrensburg, Mo. on the campus of the University of Central Missouri. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
 

--- KICKOFF ---

  • Washburn Ichabod soccer begins NCAA Tournament play with a first-round match-up against Central Oklahoma in Warrensburg, Mo.
  • The No. 5 seed Ichabods will play the No. 4 seed Bronchos on Friday, Nov. 22 at 12 pm. at South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.

  • Washburn is 14-4-2 so far in the 2024 season.
  • The Ichabods earned their second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth and fourth in program history.

--- TOURNEY TIME ---

  • Washburn enters the NCAA Tournament as the No. 5 seed in the Central Region.
  • The Ichabods are in the top half of the Central bracket, joined by Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma, and Ouachita Baptist. 
  • Central Missouri earned the No. 1 seed in the Central Region and will host the first two rounds of the tournament. The Jennies are 15-4-2 and won the 2024 MIAA Tournament Championship.
  • Central Oklahoma comes in as the No. 4 seed in the region. The Bronchos are 12-6-3, coming off a loss to Central Missouri in the MIAA Tournament Championship.
  • Ouachita Baptist rounds out the region as the No. 8 seed. The Tigers won the Great American Conference Tournament and enter the NCAA Tournament with an 8-7-4 record.
  • The bottom half of the Central Region bracket will be played in Mankato, Minn., hosted by No. 2 seed Minnesota State. The Mavericks will face No. 7 seed St. Cloud State, while No. 3 seed Missouri Western will play No. 6 seed Concordia-St. Paul.

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Hailey Beck is tied for 18th nationally with 10 shutouts posted in goal. Beck places 5th with a goals against average of 0.313, while her 0.879 save percentage is good for 14th.
  • Senior Khloe Schuckman is tied for 42nd nationally in shots per game. Schuckman has taken 68 shots in 20 games, averaging 3.40 shots per contest.
  • Washburn is 11th in Division II in corner kicks taken per game. The Ichabods have taken 140 corner kicks for an average of 7.00 per game.
  • Washburn sits at 38th in shots per game, taking 335 shots with an average of 16.75 shots per game.

--- BLUE REPORT ---

  • Senior Ana Muruzabal made her 50th apperance as an Ichabod in the MIAA semifinal. Muruzabal has scored 12 goals and added four assists at Washburn, playing 1,499 minutes.
  • Senior Jordan Tenpas played in her 40th game at Washburn in the MIAA semifinal. Tenpas has played 3,458 minutes across two seasons.
  • Lindsey Maul surpassed 1,000 minutes played for the season in the last match. The sophomore defender was an All-MIAA Third Team selection this season.
  • Belle Kennedy also surpassed 1,000 minutes played for the season. The junior midfielder has scored three goals this year and earned All-MIAA First Team honors earlier this season.
  • Grace Peterson joined Maul and Kennedy in reaching the 1,000 minute-mark against Central Oklahoma. The sophomore midfielder has started all 20 games and has one assist on the season.

  • Ana Muruzabal is two points away from 30 points for her career and one minute away from 1,500 minutes played.
  • Taylor Bockover is 68 minutes away from 4,500 minutes played for her career.

Match #21 - Central Oklahoma

  • The Bronchos are coached by Amel Muhamedagic in his first season. Muhamedagic is 1-0-1 against Washburn as the head coach of the Bronchos.
  • Muhamedagic spent 17 seasons as an assistant coach with the Bronchos before being named the head coach in waiting in 2023, officially taking over following the retirement of Mike Cook.
  • UCO went 12-6-3 this season, finishing 7-2-3 in MIAA play and earning the 4-seed in the NCAA Central Region.

  • Washburn is 3-13-2 all-time against Central Oklahoma. The teams last met on Nov. 14, with Central Oklahoma advancing to the MIAA Tournament Championship with a 1-0 victory over the Ichabods in Wichita, Kan.
