TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn men's and women's track and field team opened the 2024 MIAA Indoor Championships at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility with the multi events and came away with an all-MIAA performer in the women's pentathlon.
Nairui Krein earned Third Team All-MIAA honors in the pentathlon tallying a school-record 3,832 points topping her previous school record by 211 points. She started the afternoon with sixth-place finish in the 60m hurdles and then placed second in the high jump clearing 1.64m (5-04.50). Krein won the shotput with a mark of 12.68m (41-07.25), more than five feet past the runner up in the event. In the long jump, Krein placed fourth with a distance of 5.49m (18-00.25). Krein wrapped up the day with a fourth-place finish in the 800m run in a time of 2:26.30. Entering the weekend, her point total is the fifth-best in the D2 ranks this season for an NCAA provisional mark.
In the men's heptathlon,
Pau Borillo-Febrer is eighth with 2,704 points followed by
Drew McGilton in ninth with 2,692 points and
Mitchell Thompson is 13
th with 2,394 points after four events. The final three events will take place on Saturday.
McGilton led the Ichabods in the 60m dash to start the event finishing in a time of 7.17. McGilton continued to pace Washburn in the long jump with a second-place finish of 6.87m (22-06.50) with Borillo-Febrer finishing third at 6.75m (22-01.75). Borillo-Febrer placed seventh in the shot put to lead Washburn with a throw of 11.52m (37-09.50). McGilton finished sixth in the high jump at 1.86m (6-01.25).
