Ichabods start Arkansas road trip with two wins

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Washburn Ichabods rolled to a pair of wins on day one of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic topping Southwest Baptist 8-0 in five innings and Southeastern Oklahoma State 5-2 in game two. Washburn returns to action on Saturday facing Southern Arkansas at 11 a.m. and Wayne State at 1:30 p.m. wrapping up the weekend. Sunday's game with Harding has been canceled.
 
Game 1 – Washburn 8, Southwest Baptist 0 (5 innings)
The Ichabods jumped on the board with five runs in their first bat in the top of the first after recording six hits in the inning. Marrit Mead led off the game with a double and ten Ellington Hogle and Autymn Schreiner had back-to-back singles. A sac fly from Alexis Tanguma scored Hogle. After a double by Madi Moore that scored Schreiner scored pushing the lead to 3-0. Jaycee Ginter came around to score on a wild pitch, and Moore scored on a passed ball. Jaden LaBarge drew a walk and then scored on a single by Mariah Wheeler.
 
The Ichabods added two more in the third inning after LaBarge singled to started the inning and then scored on a double by Wheeler. After a pitching change, Hailey Neira was hit by a pitch. Hogle doubled scoring Wheeler as Washburn stretched the lead to 7-0.
 
In the fifth, Mead singled and stole second base and after a sac bunt by Gracie Gallagher, would score on a passed ball sending the Ichabods to an 8-0 win.
 
Sadie Walker tossed the five-inning shutout striking out two scattering seven this.
 
Game 2 – WU 5, Southeastern Oklahoma State 2
The Ichabods (5-2) broke up a scoreless game scoring all five of their runs in the fourth inning sending 10 to the plate in the 5-2 win. Schreiner started the inning with a walk and moved to third on a double by Ginter. A single from Moore scored Schreiner and then Erin Boles' single drove in two runs. Kaylee Wagner picked up a single followed by a single by Hailey Neira and Mead's single drove in LaBarge. A sac fly Hogle scored Riley Stephens.
 
The Savage Storm added a solo run in the seventh cutting the Ichabod lead to 5-2.
 
Ginter pitched the complete game striking out eight and two runs improving to 3-1 on the season.
 
Ginter led the Ichabod seven-hit attack with two hits and Boles had 2 RBI.
