O'FALLON, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabods went 2-0 on day two of the McKendree Bearcat Classic on Saturday blasting Kentucky Wesleyan 19-1 in five innings before topping Missouri-St. Louis 4-2 with a pair of wins. The Ichabods will wrap up the three-day event facing Maryville at noon and host school McKendree at 2:30 pm.
Game 1 – Washburn 19, Kentucky Wesleyan 1 (5 innings)
The Ichabods scored in four of the five innings rolling to a 19-1 win pounding out 15 hits in the run-rule win. The Ichabods (18-4) scored four runs in their at bats on the day when
Hailey Neira starting the offence with a double and after a walk drawn by
Autymn Schreiner,
Jaycee Ginter singled scoring Neira putting the Ichabods up 1-0. After Ginter swiped second,
Kaylee Wagner doubled to left driving in Ginter and Schreiner and with
Mariah Wheeler's single scoring Wagner the Ichabods led 4-0 at the end of the first.
After a scoreless second, the Ichabods scored seven runs on seven hits. With one out, Wheeler doubled scoring Wagner who walked in her at bat.
Ellington Hogle picked up a double driving in Wheeler and following
Jaden LaBarge's triple that scored Hogle,
Riley Stephens singled scoring LaBarge.
Marrit Mead doubled to left keeping the inning going and after the Ichabods scored on a passed ball, Schreiner drove in two with a double to left as the Ichabods increased their lead to 11-0.
In the fourth, Washburn scored seven more runs taking advantage of two Panthers' errors.
Kinlei Boley singled driving in
Erin Boles and then
Molly Gilbert drove in a run with a pinch hit single. The Ichabods'
Madi Moore drew a bases-loaded walk and
Allie Stipsits was hit sending in another Washburn run. Boles recorded an RBI and Washburn added another run on a Panther error.
In the fifth, Washburn scored a run on a home run by
Alexis Tanguma wrapping up the scoring for the Ichabods after KWC (4-8) scored a solo run in the bottom of the inning.
Ginter picked up the win in the circle improving to 8-2 overall striking out five allowing two hits. Twelve different Ichabods had hits in the game with Ginter and Wheeler each recording two in Washburn's 15-hit attack.
Game 2 – Washburn 4, Missouri-St. Louis 2
Washburn took the early lead in the bottom of the first after Mead led off the game with a single and then stole second and then moved to third after a ground out. Wagner drove in Mead with a single.
UMSL (7-6) tied the score in the top of the second, but the Ichabods took the lead with a run in the bottom of the second after Tanguma doubled to start the inning. Mead then walked and stole second and then scored on a single by Schreiner as the Ichabods wen tup 2-1.
The Tritons used a home run in the fourth inning to tie the score and it would remain tied until the sixth inning when the Ichabods
Madi Moore doubled to start the inning and she came around to score after a single by Neira. Ginter's single scored Neira to put the Ichabods up 4-2. In the seventh,
Sadie Walker put down the Tritons in order in the seventh to lock up the win as she improved to 10-2 on the season striking out seven with no walks allowing an earned run.
Madi Moore had two hits for the Ichabods and Mead scored twice and stole two bases in the game.
