WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The No. 23-ranked Washburn Ichabod softball team split an MIAA doubleheader at Central Missouri falling 6-1 in the opener before winning the second game 5-1. The Ichabods will be back in action on Saturday in Jefferson City, Mo. facing Lincoln who split a twin bill with Emporia State on Friday night.
Game 1 – UCM 6, WU 1
The Mules scored four runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-0 lead breaking open a scoreless tie. Washburn (24-10, 5-5 MIAA) got on the board when
Jaden LaBarge doubled down the line with one out. After
Mariah Wheeler drew a walk,
Alexis Tanguma grounded out scoring Wagner, who reached on a fielder's choice.
However Central Missouri came back with two more in the fourth inning picking up the 6-1 win as the Ichabods were limited to three hits in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Ellington Hogle and
Hailey Neira each had two hits for the Ichabods and the Jennies (13-14, 4-4 MIAA) finished with seven hits in the game.
Jaycee Ginter struck out six in the game scattering five hits.
Game 2 – WU 5, UCM 1
Washburn pounded out 10 hits in game two picking up a 5-1 win in the nightcap to gain the split with the Jennies.
The Ichabods scored three runs in the top of the second starting with a single by LaBarge and a walk by Ginter.
Marrit Mead singled scoring LaBarge and then a double by
Autymn Schreiner scored both Ginter and Mead putting Washburn up 3-0. Mead's run scored was her 189
th of her career breaking the Ichabod program record.
Washburn added another run in the fourth on Schreiner's single up the middle that scored Mead putting Washburn up 4-0. In the seventh, Washburn scored another run when
Erin Boles drove in Schreiner doubled to lead off the inning.
UCM scored a run in the seventh cutting the score to 6-1.
Sadie Walker improved to 14-5 in the circle striking out five in the game allowing an earned run. Schreiner had three hits with the two doubles while driving in three runs. Tanguma had two hits and Mead scored a pair of runs.
