TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod track and field teams were in action at two different competitions on Friday with the distance runner in action at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis and the first day of the SBU Bearcat Invitational. Day two of the event at SBU will take place on Saturday.
 
SBU Bearcat Classic Day 1
The Washburn throwers took center stage on the first day of the SBU Bearcat Invitational and will be coming back with two school records and two NCAA provisional marks.
 
Braden Rose broke the school record in the hammer throw by more than five feet setting a personal best, an NCAA provisional mark throwing the fifth-best mark in the nation this season at 63.32m (207-09) en route to the SBU Bearcat Classic individual title.
 
Justice Akinmoladun finished third in the shot put.
 
Shanice Hutson broke her own school record in the shot put by nearly a foot with a mark of 15.24m (50-00.00) recording an NCAA provisional mark taking first place in Bolivar.
 
Paola Castaldi also won her event taking first in the hammer throw with a mark of 54.79m (179-09) and Tyler Smith finished third with a throw of 44.98m (147-07).
 
WashU Distance Carnival
Competing at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Lexie Fontaine finished fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:33.57 topping the school record by .13 recording a personal best in the process.
 
Gabriel Chinya was 14th in the 1500m run in a time of 3:57.45 and Paul Kamp finished close behind in 15th overall in a time of 3:58.13 for a personal best.
 
Donald Kibet had a personal best in the 5000m finishing 17th out of 278 runners.
