TOPEKA, Kan. – The No. 24-ranked Washburn Ichabods completed a perfect weekend after doubleheader sweep over Missouri Western as Ichabod pitchers
Sadie Walker and
Jaycee Ginter held the Griffons to a .067 batting average combining for 22 strikeouts highlighted by a Walker no-hitter in the opener as Washburn swept the twin bill winning 1-0 and 2-0 on Saturday at Gahnstrom Field. Washburn will return to action next weekend on the road facing Nebraska-Kearney on April 5 and Fort Hays State the following day.
Game 1 – Washburn 1, Missouri Western 0
Sadie Walker tossed the first seven-inning complete game shutout since 2021 when
Jaycee Ginter pitched one against Fort Hays State striking out 10 while improving to 17-5 on the season. Walker faced one of the minimum in the win.
The Ichabods (30-10, 11-5 MIAA) scored their lone run of the game in the third inning when
Erin Boles singled to right field and then moved to third when the ball skipped under the outfielder's glove.
Ellington Hogle's sac fly to center scored Boles for what would be the game-winning run.
Washburn was held without a hit from that point until the sixth inning when
Autymn Schreiner singled to center.
Walker lowered her earned run average to 0.84 on the season and did not walk anyone in the game.
Game 2 – Washburn 2, Missouri Western 0
In her second-straight appearance with double digit strikeouts, Ginter struck out 12 batters for the second game in a row following her 12 strikeout game against Northwest Missouri on Friday night. Ginter moved to 14-5 on the season with the win scattering three hits with one walk.
Washburn broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when
Mariah Wheeler doubled to start the inning.
Gracie Gallagher entered as a pinch hitter moving to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Madi Moore's single down the right field line brought Gallagher around to score putting the Ichabods up 1-0.
Zoe Quinn came in as a pinch runner for Moore and would score on a Boles' single to right for the second and final run of the night.
From that point on, Ginter struck out six more Griffons (20-12, 6-6 MIAA) moving her day's total to 12 in the win.
Madi Moore led the Ichabods eight-hit attack recording two.
Against the Bearcats and Griffons combined, the pitching duo of Ginter and Walker recorded a 0.25 ERA holding Northwest and Missouri Western to a .138 batting average striking out 39 batters.
