Ichabods fall in road sweep at No. 12 Bronchos

EDMOND, Okla. – The Washburn Ichabods fell in their MIAA-opening doubleheader falling 6-2 and 2-1 to the No. 12-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos. The Ichabods will continue their weekend on Sunday at Newman as they will take on the Jets in Wichita starting at 12 p.m.
 
Game 1 – UCO 6, WU 2
The No. 12-ranked Bronchos jump on the board in their first at bat before the Ichabods tied the score in the top of the second. Mariah Wheeler started things in the frame with a double and after a single by Autymn Schreiner, Jaden LaBarge singled to center scoring Gracie Gallagher who entered as a pinch runner for Wheeler.
 
UCO scored three runs in the bottom of the second with two unearned taking advantage of an Ichabod error. Neither team scored until the sixth when the Ichabods' Jaycee Ginter led off the inning with a single and after a double by Kaylee Wagner that scored Ashlynn Wolf from first base after entering as a pinch runner cutting the UCO lead to 4-2.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, UCO moved its lead back to four at 6-2 adding a pair of runs.
 
Ginter and LaBarge had two hits in the opener as the Ichabods picked up eight hits in the game. Ginter dropped to 9-3 in the circle striking out four.
 
Game 2 – UCO 2, WU 1
 
The Ichabods opened the scoring in the top of the second when Schreiner grounded out to second sending LaBarge home after leading the inning off with a walk. The Ichabods held on to the 1-0 lead until the fifth inning when the Bronchos plated two runs taking a 2-1 lead.
 
Washburn went down in order in the seventh as UCO completed the sweep. Alexis Tanguma had three of Washburn's six hits in the game.
 
Sadie Walker struck out seven in the loss allowing two earned runs.
