EMPORIA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod men's track and field team had its best finish in its NCAA history finishing 14th overall with 18.5 points after the final day of action on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Emporia. The 18.5 tops the previous high-point total of eight set in 2021 when the Ichabods finished 30th.
Justice Akinmoladun earned his second All-American honor as an Ichabod finishing eighth in the shot put scoring one point for Washburn's team total. Akinmoladun climbed from 12th to seventh on his final preliminary round throw to ensure his trip to the finals with a throw of 17.53m (57-06.25). He had other throws of 17.15m on his fourth throw and 17.36m on his final throw with a foul on his second and fifth attempts.
Washburn's 18.5 points finished above Northwest Missouri's 17.5 points, Nebraska-Kearney 11 points, Lincoln's six points, Fort Hays State's 1.5 points. Other teams from the MIAA competing but going scoreless were Emporia State and Missouri Western. Pittsburg State won the men's championship with a total of 78 points. Missouri Southern was fourth scoring 42 points and Central Missouri was 12th scoring 20 points.
