BENTONVILLE, Ark. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team went 1-1 on day two of the Alvy Early Memorial Classic and head coach
Brenda Holaday became Washburn's all-time wins leader in the opener, collecting her 257 victory in the Ichabod dugout. Washburn will wrap up its trip to Arkansas facing Arkansas-Monticello 11 a.m. Sunday.
Game 1 – WU 13, UIS 0
Th Washburn Ichabods ended a scoreless game in a big way scoring six runs in the sixth inning and seven runs in the seventh as Washburn rolled to a 13-0 win over Illinois-Springfield. In the game, Holaday recorded her 257
th win at Washburn passing former head coach Lisa Carey, who played for Holaday at Washburn Rural High School.
With the score tied 0-0,
Makenzie Sais drove in the first run of the game with a single that scored
Maddie McGee who entered as a pinch runner for
Dalaney Anderson, who reached on an error.
Ellington Hogle singled to center scoring both Sais and
Erin Boles.
Kate Ediger then doubled driving in two more runs, scoring both Hogle and
Gracie Gallagher. Washburn scored another run on a
Jaden LaBarge ground out putting the Ichabods up 6-0.
After a scoreless sixth inning, Washburn came back with seven more runs in the top of the seventh. Back-to-back singles by
Kate Dolan and Sais to start the inning set up a 2 RBI single by
Danielle Schlader scoring both Ichabods.
Alexis Tanguma then doubled driving in
Kaylee Wagner who walked earlier in the inning.
Ediger then grounded out driving in a run and
Karlyn Bowman singled driving in Tanguma. Continuing the seven-hit attack in the inning, Dolan drove in two runs with a single scoring two more Ichabods. Sais singled for the second time in the inning as Washburn went up 13-0.
The Prairie Stars (3-4) went down in order giving Holaday the historic win.
Sais led the Ichabods with three of Washburn's 14 hits in the game and Boles, Dolan and Tanguma each had two hits. Ediger drove in three runs and Dolan had two.
Sadie Walker pitched six innings for the win striking out eight with no walks improving to 3-2 on the season.
Game 2 – UMSL 6, WU 4
The Tritons (3-5) broke open a scoreless game with a grand slam taking advantage of an Ichabod error accounting for four unearned runs. In the third inning the Tritons added a fourth run in the fourth going up 5-0.
In the sixth, the Ichabods broke the shutout with three runs in the frame when
Jaden LaBarge doubled, scoring both
Kate Ediger and Ashley Gaughan.
Erin Boles then doubled scoring LaBarge as the Ichabods cut UMSL's lead to 6-3.
In the seventh, Washburn added another on a fielder's choice from Ediger that scored
Gracie Gallagher, but the Ichabods did not get any closer in the 6-4 loss.
Alexis Tanguma had three hits in the game and LaBarge drove in two.
Ava Bloyd (1-2) pitched three innings, and then Tanguma struck out four in four innings in relief, allowing one earned run.
