BRANSON, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team went 1-1 on day two of the Branson Spring Break falling to No. 7-ranked Augustana before rebounding in the second game of the day with a 9-5 win over Northern State. Washburn wraps up the trip with two more games on Thursday facing Minot State and No. 20 McKendree, who the Ichabods swept on Monday in Branson.
Game 1 - #7 Augustana 9, WU 0
The Ichabods were limited to seven hits as the Vikings scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take the 9-0 win.
Mariah Wheeler and
Jaden LaBarge each had two of the Ichabods' seven hits in the game as the Ichabods stranded nine on base in the game.
Game 2 – WU 9, Northern State 5
Washburn trailed 1-0 entering the top of the second, but scored two runs in the inning with RBI by
Kate Ediger and Maggie McGee on back-to-back doubles.
Washburn added another run in the top of the third with when
Ellington Hogle tripled to lead off the inning and would then score on
Alexis Tanguma's ground out.
Northern State took a 4-3 lead after scoring in the bottom of the fifth, but the Ichabods rallied with four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh for the 9-5 win. In the sixth, Washburn took advantage of a couple of Wolves' errors and added RBI by
Erin Boles and Hogle in the four-run inning. After Northern State scored a run in the sixth inning, Washburn added two more in the seventh with a sac fly from Ediger and another error from NSU.
Jenna Sprague picked up the win in relief tossing 2 1/3 innings. Washburn collected 11 hits in the game with Hogle and Wagner both recording three hits and LaBarge added two.
