Ichabods split MIAA doubleheader against the Lions

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team split an MIAA doubleheader on Friday taking game one with Missouri Southern 5-3 before falling in the nightcap 7-4. Washburn will wrap up its weekend trip against No. 25-ranked Pittsburg State on Saturday.

Game 1 – WU 5, MSSU 3
The Ichabods (22-11) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their first at bat as Erin Boles drove in both Makenzie Sais and Alexis Tanguma who reached on a walk and an error, respectively.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the third when the Lions scored a pair of unearned runs as Missouri Southern took a 3-2 lead.

The advantage was short-lived as the Ichabods came back with two runs of their own as Kate Ediger picked up an RBI and then Ellington Hogle's RBI single drove in Ediger as Washburn went back in front 4-3.

The score remained 4-3 until Jaden LaBarge doubled with two outs scoring Boles who reached on a single stretching to the final score of 5-3.

Boles had three hits and 2 RBI for the Ichabods as Washburn tallied seven hits overall.

Sadie Walker improved to 10-4 in the circle picking up the win.

Game 2 – MSSU 7, WU 4
For the second-straight game, the Ichabods scored in their first at bat as Tanguma drove in Hogle who started the game with a single and moved to second on a bunt by Sais as Washburn took the early lead.

The Lions tied the score in the bottom of the inning, but Washburn came back with three runs taking a 4-1 lead in the top of the second when Sais' single scored Ediger and then after Sais stole second, Maddie McGee came around two score on 2 RBI by Kaylee Wagner.
