TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn junior pitcher Caleb Lunnon was named the National College Baseball Writers Association Central Region Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday morning for his performance on the mound in the last week.
Lunnon earns his second honor of the week after being named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. The Piedmont, Okla. native made a pair of starts in a busy last week for the Ichabods, throwing 13.0 innings and not allowing a single run. He pitched seven scoreless innings against Fort Hays State on the road last Tuesday, while allowing just one hit. On Monday against Rogers State he threw six more scoreless innings without issuing a walk and earning the win to make him 3-0 on the year. He struck out five batters in each game, with just two total walks.
The award is the second regional honor for the Ichabods this season after Cash Jay was named the Regional Hitter of the Week earlier this season. Washburn is back in action tonight, hosting Central Missouri at 5 p.m. at Falley Field.
