Ichabod men's cross country team earns top-10 finish at Gans Creek Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Washburn men's cross country team stepped onto one of the premier stages in the Midwest Friday morning, lining up at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Missouri against a national-caliber field featuring 24 NCAA Division I teams, an NCAA Division III team and a junior college. The Ichabods, the only NCAA Division II team finished 10th overall scorning 334 points.

Leading the way for Washburn was senior Tommy Roehl who crossed the finish line in a time of 24:29.7 placing 60th overall. 

Fellow senior and returning All-American Donald Kibet, finished 100th overall covered the 8,000-meter layout in 24:48.5. Senior Shane Mullen crossed in 24:49.5 for 102nd place, and he was followed within seconds by sophomore Sebastiaan Horselenberg in 103rd at 24:49.8, and junior Alex Adams, who ran 24:57.3 for 120th with sophomore Sam Nesbitt right behind in 123rd in a time of 24:57.7.

Junior Ludovico Vaccari (136th, 25:03.5) and Lukas Mehl (139th, 25:03.9) all landed within 33 seconds of Roehl, creating a remarkably small spread across the team's top eight finishers. 

UCLA won the team title of the Black Division Race with 86 team points followed by Ohio State (112), Illinois-Chicago (122), Iowa Western CC (137) and Kansas (178).
