BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Washburn built and early lead but allowed the final 13 runs to fall 14-4 in an eight-inning season-opener to Lynn on Friday afternoon. The Ichabods return to action on Saturday, Feb. 7 against Palm Beach Atlantic at 12 p.m.
Washburn (0-1) got on the board early with Levi Risenhoover working a leadoff walk and moved to second. Trenton Barry reached on an error and moved to second while Risenhoover scored. Ian Luce hit an RBI groundout to score Barry and go up 2-0.
Caleb Lunnon got the start for the Ichabods. The leadoff batter reached for the Fighting Knights and came around to score as Lynn (3-3) cut the lead in half scoring one in the first.
The lead got extended in the third inning with a pair of solo home runs off the bats of Risenhoover and Luce to make it a 4-1 ballgame. Lunnon kept the Fighting Knights offense down as he pitched into the fifth before exiting with two on base. Lynn scored one run in the inning to cut the lead to two.
The Ichabods continued to work through the bullpen as the Fighting Knights scored four runs on five hits to go in front 6-4 in the sixth inning. They added three more runs in the seventh, with three more hits. At the plate, Washburn was held without a hit in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings until Luce knocked a double in the eighth but was left stranded.
Lynn added one five more runs in the eighth inning to end the game early with a 14-4 decision.
The home squad out-hit the Ichabods 19-5 with each team committing one error along the way. Caleb Lunnon threw 4.0 innings in his start, striking out two while giving up two. He was the first of seven pitchers to take the mound, Max Clark took the loss in the decision, throwing 1.2 innings.
Ian Luce had the only multi-hit game for Washburn with both going for extra bases, he also drove in a pair. Levi Risenhoover reached base twice with a home run and a walk.
Bryant Zayas led the offensive attack for Lynn with four hits while Jason Lashley drove in three runs.
