EDMOND, Okla. -- Washburn couldn't complete a sweep on Sunday afternoon falling 10-2 to Central Oklahoma to wrap up a 12-game roadtrip. The Ichabods return home just for one game, taking on Central Missouri on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Two batters into the game Washburn (8-11, 5-2 MIAA) had a lead as Ian Luce led off with a double followed by Trenton Barry slashing a single. They executed a double steal that scored Luce. Maclane Finley got the start on the mound for the Ichabods, tossing a pair of scoreless innings to begin the game.
In the third a leadoff walk for the Bronchos came around to score on a sacrifice bunt, tying the game. The next time up Central Oklahoma went in front with a leadoff solo home run. They added another un on a pair of hits later in the fourth to go up 3-1.
A pair of doubles for Brooks Richardson then Barry in the fifth cut the deficit in half. Maclaine Finley finished his outing with a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning. In the sixth the Bronchos scored one on a walk and a double before loaded the bases then clearing them with a grand slam to go up 8-2.
They would add two more runs in the eighth inning while the Washburn offense was held in check the rest of the way to finish the weekend series.
Central Oklahoma led 11-9 in hits while both teams worked five walks and neither committed an error.
Six Ichabod pitchers combined to strike out eight led by six from Maclane FInley. At the plate both Trenton Barry and Jack Borgmann had multi-hit days.
