GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Washburn Men's Golf Team heads to the Grand Canyon State for its first tournament of the spring season. 

"Starting off spring with a great event down in Arizona, guys have worked hard on their games this offseason and will be good to take it to competitive rounds," said Ichabod Head Coach Ronnie McHenry. "We have a group of young and older kids, and hopefully have matured our golf games as well."

Washburn will open the spring season at the Maverick Desert Classic in Arizona at Palm Valley Golf Course on Monday, March 9th, through Tuesday, March 10th. 

The Ichabods' last time out ended the fall, finishing second at the MSSU Fall Invite. Washburn is ranked 56th nationally and fifth in the Central Region. 

Freshman Jacob Fratzel has had a great start to his Ichabod career. He had two top-10 finishes in the fall, including a fourth-place finish at the MSSU Fall Invite. He shot a team round low of 66 at the NSU Men's Classic. 

South African Marco Anderson enters his final semester as an Ichabod in the fall. He has had two top-20 finishes, with his best being a tied-for-11th finish at the Holiday Inn Express. 

Myles Tarvin, a transfer from Kansas City, achieved three top-20 finishes in the fall with a season-best finish of t-17th at the Western Washington Invitational. 

Junior Quinn Earwood shot a season low 69 at the NSU Men's Classic in Oklahoma in the fall, and two rounds of 74.

Sophomore Blake Buessing is in his first tournament of the season after redshirting last season. 

Canadian Zachary Haydamack, who is playing as an individual this week in Arizona, has two top-40 finishes this year, with the best being a tied 21st finish at the NSU Men's Classic.

The Ichabods will face off against Augustana, Benedictine, Minnesota State-Mankato, Minot State, Pittsburg State, and Rockhurst. 

The tournament will start at 8 AM CT with a shotgun start.
