Washburn Claims Team Title at Maverick Desert Classic

3/10/2026 9:04:00 PM

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Washburn Ichabod Men's Golf Team won the Maverick Desert Classic.

"Can never be upset with a team win and tying for 1st, but it will hurt and hopefully motivate them even more for the rest of the spring season, " said Washburn Head Coach Ronnie McHenry. "Great start and a lot of rust, but we just build from here. Excited for the rest of the season and what we can do!"

The Ichabods tied for first with MIAA foe Pittsburg State, Washburn shot 9-under on day 1, and on a windy day 2, they finished 13-over par to win the tournament.

Freshman Jacob Fratzel tied for seventh with a score of 1-under par. He shot a 69 & 74 to have a top-10 finish, the third of his young career.

Marco Anderson tied for 11th after back-to-back rounds at even par.

Myles Tarvin finished in a tie for 13th, his fourth top-20 finish in his Ichabod career.

Blake Buessing, in his first tournament as an Ichabod, tied for 25th. He shot a 69(-3) yesterday in round 1.

Zach Haydamack played as an individual in Arizona and finished tied for 52nd after he shot a 75(+3) in the final round.

Junior Quinn Earwood finished tied for 77th.

The Ichabods get their first team tournament title since the 2021-22 season, where they won the Washburn Ichabod Invitational in October of 2022.
