FIRST PITCH
• The Washburn Ichabod softball team will wrap up an eight-game roadtrip with two doubleheaders with a trip to Central Missouri on Thursday and Newman on Saturday. The original schedule date of the Central Missouri has been moved up to Thursday due to the weather forecast.
• The Ichabods are 28-15 this season and 5-9 in the MIAA and have won their last four games after sweeping Fort Hays State and Nebraska-Kearney last weekend.
• The Ichabods will return home next week on April 17 for their final regular season home games hosting the Griffons and Bearcats.
• The Ichabods are looking for their fifth 30-win season in a row …Washburn has hit the 30-win mark for four-straight seasons dating back to the 2022 season …that is longest streak of 30 wins since a run between the 2002-07 seasons when the Ichabods recorded 30 wins six seasons in a row.
• The Washburn Ichabods were tabbed sixth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches poll that was released before the season started by the MIAA office

Brenda Holaday is in her 10th season as the Ichabod softball head coach recording a 311-187 overall record going 136-79 in MIAA contests leading the Ichabods to two MIAA Regular Season titles (2018, 2022) and three NCAA Central Regional (2018, 2022, 2024). Holaday became Washburn's all-time winning coach with a 13-0 win over Illinois-Springfield on Feb. 8, 2025.

Makenzie Sais became the Ichabod single-season leader in stolen bases against Montana State Billings with her 34th … she enters the weekend with a nation-best 61 stolen bases, 20 ahead of the No. 2-ranked player on the chart … the MIAA single season record is 65 by Becca Alt from Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri S&T) set in 1997 as a junior … Sais' 61 stolen bases are second on the MIAA top-10 single season chart …Sais' 78 career stolen bases at Washburn are trailing on Torrie Beauchamp's 87 from 1996-1999 and Marrit Mead's 96 from 2021-24 … Sais is also ranked seventh in the nation in hits with 61 …Sais is batting .457 in MIAA games.

Aspen Burgardt is 20th in the nation in walks per game at 0.77 per contest and 24th in the nation in assists with 92.

Sadie Walker is ninth in the nation in shutouts with five and she is 26th in strikeouts with 117.

• The Ichabods are outscoring their opponents 249 to 138 this season including 60 to 18 in the 3rd inning … the only two innings the Ichabods are being outscored are the seventh (17 to 13) and the ninth (1 to 0).

Dalaney Anderson leads the team with a .684 batting average with a runner on third and less than two out (13 of 19).
• As a team, the Ichabods are ranked 11th in the NCAA with 59 doubles while also ranking 16th in hits (288), 18th in RBI (189), 14th in shutouts (8), 11th in stolen bases per game (2.77), 15th in total runs (212) and third in stolen bases (97) and third in walks (145).

LAST TIME OUT
HAYS, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabods won their fourth game in a row, sweeping Fort Hays State 12-0 and 6-0 as the Ichabods outhit the Tigers 27 to 6 and outscored the host squad 18 to 1 on Friday night.
Game 1 - WU 12, FHSU 0 (5 innings)
The Washburn offense erupted early and often Friday afternoon, plating 10 runs across the second and third innings on the way to a 12-1, five inning victory over Fort Hays State in the first game of the MIAA doubleheader. The Ichabods finished with 14 hits, six walks and 12 RBI.
After a scoreless first inning, Washburn broke the game open with a five run second. Following a walk to
Danielle Schlader and singles from
Kate Ediger and
Makenzie Sais,
Taylor Brees delivered a two out, three run double to left center, scoring Sais,
Maddie McGee and
Karlyn Bowman.
Dalaney Anderson followed with an RBI double to plate Brees, and
Aspen Burgardt capped the inning with an RBI single to left as Washburn jumped out to a 5 0 lead.
The Ichabods continued to pile on in the third, again scoring five runs on four hits. Sais drove in Schlader with a single, and Brees knocked in another run with a base hit to center. With runners on, Burgardt came through for the second time, ripping a three run double to left center that pushed the advantage to 10-0.
Washburn added two more runs in the fourth inning.
Madi Moore doubled to start the frame and later scored on a
Kate Ediger double to right center. Ediger then crossed the plate on a
Maddie McGee RBI groundout, extending the lead to 12-0.
Fort Hays State broke up the shutout in the bottom of the fourth when Lilly Mohr doubled to right center to score Abbey Duarte, but it would be the Tigers' lone run of the contest.
Sadie Walker limited Fort Hays State to one run on one hit, walking two and striking out two while needing just 70 pitches to complete the five inning win.
Sais paced the Washburn offense with a perfect 3 for 3 day that included two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Brees was also 3 for 3, scoring twice and driving in a game high four runs, while Ediger finished 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI. Burgardt added four RBI on two hits, and Anderson went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Game 2 - WU 6, FHSU 0
Washburn completed the sweep of Fort Hays State with a 6-0 shutout victory over the Tigers winning their eighth in a row over the host squad.
The Ichabods broke through in the top of the first inning. After
Taylor Brees singled with one out,
Dalaney Anderson doubled to left center, driving in Brees. Anderson advanced to third on a fielding error on the play as Washburn took a 1-0 lead.
Washburn added to its lead in the third inning with a pair of runs. With two outs, Anderson singled to keep the inning alive before
Aspen Burgardt singled to left field, scoring
Maddie McGee. Moments later,
Madi Moore worked a bases-loaded walk to bring home Anderson, extending the lead to 3-0.
The Ichabods manufactured another run in the fourth. Singles from
Kate Ediger and
Makenzie Sais put runners in scoring position before
Taylor Brees lifted a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Ediger to score for a 4-0 Washburn advantage.
Washburn put the game away in the sixth inning. Sais singled and Brees followed with a base hit before both runners advanced on a double steal. Anderson delivered again, ripping a two-run double to left center that scored Brees and Sais, wrapping up the scoring on the day.
Anderson paced the Washburn offense, finishing 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and two doubles. Brees went 2 for 3, scored twice and drove in a run, while Sais added two hits and a run scored. Burgardt and Moore each recorded RBI, and Washburn totaled 13 hits in the contest.
In the circle,
Jenna Sprague tossed a complete game shutout to improve to 5 5 on the season. Sprague allowed five hits, walked none and struck out four while facing just 26 batters over seven innings. Fort Hays State stranded five runners and never advanced a runner past second base..

• The Jennies are 26-12 and 9-5 in the MIAA winning their last five games including sweeps over Rogers State and Northeastern State.

• The Newman Jets are 7-31 overall and 2-10 in the MIAA and have lost their last four games after getting swept by East Central and Northwest Missouri … the two MIAA wins came in a sweep over Missouri Western on April 2.
• AJ Borja is batting .320 with 31 hits and Malie Noda has a team-high 37 hits and 20 runs scored with 16 RBI.
• Kinyon DeCorte is 2-6 in the circle with a 5.77 ERA … as a team the Jets have a 7.53 ERA.

• is 311-187 in her 10th season as the Ichabod head softball coach and is the all-time winningest coach in program history.
• she has gone 141-83 in MIAA contests leading the Ichabods to two MIAA regular season championships in 2018 and 2022 while leading the program to three of its six NCAA postseason in 2018, 2022 and 2024.
• in 2022, the Ichabods won their third MIAA Championship going 24-2 in the MIAA reaching the MIAA Tournament Championship game and the NCAA postseason as Holaday was named the MIAA Coach of the Year for the second time in her tenure at Washburn.
