PITTSBURG, Kan,. – The Washburn wrapped up day 2 of the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with several strong performances, highlighted by scoring efforts in the high jump and decathlon, along with personal-best marks in preliminary events. The Ichabods enter the final day of the championships with 31 team points, tied for fourth place.
In the men's high jump, the Ichabods picked up four team points as
Slade Smith cleared 2.04m (6-08.25) to finish fifth overall.
Matthew Heckman followed closely, placing ninth at 2.01m (6-07.00), while
Aaron Newcomer finished 11th with a clearance of 1.96m (6-05.25).
Washburn also scored solidly in the decathlon as
Alex Michiels placed fourth overall with 6,034 points to earn five team points. Michiels delivered a strong second day, highlighted by a third-place finish in both the 110-meter hurdles (15.77) and the pole vault (3.70m), along with a third-place showing in the 1,500m in a time of 5:25.62. He also added a fifth-place finish in the discus and placed fourth in the javelin to cap the event.
Emeka Ogbonna added two more points for the Ichabods with a seventh-place finish in the decathlon, totaling a personal-best 4,345 points in his first appearance in the event. Ogbonna closed the competition with a fourth-place finish in the javelin and another fourth-place showing in the 1,500m.
Grady Buessing recorded a personal-best time of 1:53.26 in the 800m to finish 12th in the prelims.
Gustavo Cadan recorded a personal-best 14.59 in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries, placing 10th overall.
