'Bods put four-game winning streak up against 21st-ranked UCO Tuesday
After nine days off, the Ichabods will return to the court Tuesday to host No. 21 Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m. in Lee Arena. Washburn enters the game at 4-1 with a four-game winning streak while the Bronchos are 6-1 and have also won four straight.
The game can be heard on AM580 WIBW in the Topeka area, as well as online through wusports.com for free. Fans can also catch this game, as well as all MIAA games, live on a webstream through www.themiaa.tv for $5.50 a game.
The two teams are off to strong starts offensively as they are both near the top in scoring in their conferences. Washburn is second in the MIAA with 87.8 points a game while UCO is second in the Lone Star Conference with 86.3 points a game. Both team have scored 100 points or more twice this year.
The Ichabods have not played since hosting two games in the AM580 WIBW/Capitol Plaza Holiday Classic last month. Washburn defeated Missouri Baptist 99-49 the first night and then followed with a 102-60 win over Kansas Wesleyan. The Ichabods have not lost since their 92-60 loss to open the season at Kansas, ranked No. 4 in the Division I preseason polls.
Central Oklahoma last played on Saturday, getting by 89-88 at Abilene Christian. The Bronchos' one loss came November 23 to Southwest Baptist.
About the Central Oklahoma Bronchos
Central Oklahoma is ranked 21st in the country and has a 6-1 record. The Bronchos are led in scoring by Sam Belt with 15.9 points a game while Eric Cazenave has 11.9 and Lance Harper has 11.6 a game. Belt leads the team with 6.6 rebounds a game.
WU-UCO series notes: Matchup has history of high-scoring games
• The Washburn-Central Oklahoma series goes back to a pair of games played in 1938-39. The Bronchos won those two games and hold a 11-6 advantage in the series record.
• The Ichabods are 2-2 against Central Oklahoma in Lee Arena.
• The two highest combined scoring games in Washburn history came against Central Oklahoma. The two teams combined for 246 points when UCO won 132-114 on 03/14/92 and then the two totaled 218 points in a 111-107 UCO win on 12/19/98.
• The Bronchos were the last team to score 100 points against WU when they scored 111 on 12/19/98. Washburn has gone 156 games since then without allowing 100 points.
• The 132 points allowed to the Bronchos in 1992 was the most ever allowed by WU. The 111 allowed in 1998 was the third most allowed.
• The 114 points scored by the Ichabods against UCO in 1992 was the sixth highest point total scored by Washburn.
• Washburn has reached 100 points three times against UCO. The Bronchos have scored 100 points twice against WU and join Fort Hays State, Rockhurst and Pittsburg State as the only teams to reach to century mark twice against the Ichabods. Both times UCO reached 100 points, the Ichabods did too.
• The Bronchos are no stranger to triple digits. They've reached 100 points 215 times in 82 years and are 188-27 when reaching that point. They have twice scored 167 points for their highest output.
• WU and Central Oklahoma met in the 2004-05 NCAA South Central Region tournament. The Bronchos won that game 84-66 on 03/12/05, Washburn's last appearance in the NCAA tournament.
• UCO is 1-0 in overtime against the 'Bods with the win coming in the 111-107 win on 12/19/98.
A winning history
• The Ichabods are 1,340-926 (.591 in 2,266 games) and are in their 103rd season of basketball.
• Starting their 24th season in Lee Arena, the Ichabods are 309-55 (.849).
• In 19 seasons now as an NCAA II school, the Ichabods have 10 NCAA tournament appearances and nine MIAA titles.
• Washburn won the 1986-87 NAIA national championship with a 35-4 record under head coach

• The Ichabods suffered their first losing season in 2005-06 since 1976-77 and first of head coach
Bob Chipman's career. They also failed to advance to the MIAA tournament for the first time since joining the league in 1989-90.
Ichabods well-rounded in offensive department
Despite being second in the MIAA with 87.8 points a game, the Ichabods do not have any players in the top 20 in conference scoring. Through five games they have had seven different players reach double figures in scoring and four different players have led the team in scoring at least once. Washburn is averaging 4.0 double-figure scorers per game so far.

Junior forward
Darnell Kimble was 9 of 14 in two games at the Thanksgiving Classic as he scored 24 points. From the free throw line he was 6 of 7. For the season he is tied for the team lead with 11.0 points a game off 50 percent shooting. He is also pulling in 3.8 rebounds while blocking 1.4 shots, fifth best in the MIAA. Kimble has scored in double figures three times with a season-high 14 against Lincoln last month.
Kimble led the Ichabods with 14 points in his Washburn exhibition debut at UNLV and then he scored 11 more at UMKC. He was 5 of 9 from the floor and 4 of 7 from the free throw line against the Rebels and then a perfect 4 of 4 against the Kangaroos and 3 of 3 from the line. Kimble is a transfer from Brown Mackie Community College where he scored 15.0 points a game with 8.0 rebounds last year. He scored in double figures 22 times with six double-doubles while shooting 58 percent from the field.
Byers moves up career blocking record chart
Junior forward
Paul Byers is ninth in school history with 50 career blocks. He needs seven more to move to eighth and 16 more will get him into the top five. He had 17 blocks last year and in 2005-06, his freshman year, he had 31, the eighth highest single-season total at Washburn. Byers begins the year fifth in school history with 0.9 blocks a game.
Byers is fourth on the team this year with 8.6 points a game. He leads the team from the field with a .704 shooting percentage (19-27) and he's tied for second with 4.6 rebounds a game.
In the exhibition at UNLV he blocked two shots. He also led the team with 14 rebounds, enough to be a career high if it where a regular season game. His current career high is 11 against Barry last year..
Meile enters top 10 in career 3-pointers made
Senior guard
Andrew Meile has 108 3-pointers in his career to tie for the eighth most in Washburn history. He needs 41 more to catch Eric Carter, who had 149 from 1997-2001.
Meile is averaging 6.0 points a game this year off 52 percent shooting and he's 8 of 18 from 3-point range. He returns for his fourth season after being the only Ichabod to start all 27 games last year. He finished second on the team with 9.1 points a game and second with 2.0 assists. He led the team with 1.3 steals and 48 made 3-pointers.
Bods and Ends
• Washburn leads the MIAA in rebounding with 45.2 a game and also leads with a +11.6 rebounding margin.
• The Ichabods are second in the MIAA with 13.0 steals a game. Last year they only averaged 5.6 steals.
• The Ichabods have reached the 100-point mark twice this year. In 2004-05 they scored 100 or more three times and in 2003-04 they did it five times.
• Washburn set a school and MIAA record last year with five overtime games. The Ichabods went 3-2 in the games, taking two of them to double overtime.
• The Ichabods are 30-24 all-time in overtimes with three wins and two losses last year. Washburn is 6-7 all-time in 13 games that went into at least double-overtime.
Final notes on the AM580 WIBW Holiday Classic
• The Ichabods scored 100 points for the second time this season. The last time they reached the century mark at least twice in a year was in 2004-05 when they did it thrice. Washburn is now 59-4 when scoring at least 100 points in a game.
• The Ichabods improved to 12-9-1 against KWU and have won three straight in the series.
• Scott, Meile and Williams started at guard while Byers and Kimble started at forward. All five have started all five games this year.
• The Ichabods won four straight games for the first time since late in the 2004-05 season.
• The 99-49 win over Missouri Baptist was Washburn's seventh 50-point win and the seventh-largest win in school history. The last win by 50 or more points was on November 22, 2003, against Kansas Wesleyan in a 122-57, 65-point win, the largest in school history.
• Washburn's 14 3-pointers was one away from the school record set in 1996-97 when it had 15 against Central Missouri.
• Meile's eight assists broke his previous career-high of six, a total he reached twice in his previous three years.
