Hosey drives in four as Ichabods split with Griffons

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Joe Hosey had four hits and four RBI as Washburn won game two at Missouri Western 13-7 to salvage a split in the MIAA doubleheader with the Griffons Sunday. The Ichabods lost game one 7-5.

Washburn (12-25, 8-20 MIAA) will return home to play Nebraska-Omaha Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Falley Field.

Hosey was 4 for 6 in the second game and drove in four runs off two singles and a double. The Ichaobds pounded out 16 hits with eight batters contributing to the total and six batters getting multiple hits.

The Ichabods scored in each of the first three innings to go up 5-0. The Griffons got one in the bottom of the fourth and then both teams scored four times in the fifth to make the score 9-5. MWSU scored twice more in the next inning but Washburn added four insurance runs late in the game to hold on and snap a four-game losing streak.

Wes Joy drove in two runs on a triple and Luis Beltran Lopez drove in two runs on two singles.

Starter Bryan Stroth earned the win to improve to 4-2. He allowed seven runs off 11 hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Curtis Hamilton pitched three innings of relief and allowed just a hit with four strikeouts.

In game one WU scored a single run in the top of the first but the Griffons added three in the bottom and three in the second and never looked back.

Dane Simoneau had an RBI double in the first and then Cameron Kasel drove in two on a single and Tyler Blankenship doubled in one as Washburn scored three in the third. Brad Rogers later scored on an error in the sixth but the Ichabods went down in order in the seventh.

Brett Sorensen pitched the entire game for Washburn and allowed just three earned runs off eight hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
