Washburn got a solid start from Jake Iverson and pounded 13 hits in a 7-2 win against No. 23 Nebraska-Omaha Tuesday afternoon at Falley Field. The Ichabods improved to 13-25 as they snapped UNO's 18-game winning streak.

The Ichabods will stay at home and host Truman in a four-game MIAA series starting Friday at 4 p.m.

Iverson went six innings and allowed the Mavericks to score twice in the top of the first. He allowed five hits and struck out five with two walks.

The Ichabods bounced back from the 2-0 deficit with four runs in the second. Dane Simoneau led off with a double and Cameron Kasel drove him in with a single. Calvin Iversen later drove in a run on a single and then Joe Hosey drove in two with a hit up the middle.

Iverson took control on the mound and retired the side in order the second and third innings. In the fourth the Mavericks loaded the bases on two singles and a walk but he struck out Bryan Frew on three straight pitches to end the inning.

UNO's starter Ryan Hines then returned the favor as he struck out three straight batters in the bottom of the fourth to leave the bases loaded for Washburn. The Ichabods had another chance to add a run when Brian Gorges led off the seventh with a double and made it to third on a throwing error from the left fielder. He was later thrown out by the catcher on a failed squeaze play.

After UNO went scoreless in the top of the eighth the Ichabods added three insurance runs in the bottom of the inning. Iversen drove one in on a sacrifice fly and then Gorges singled in two runs with a hit down the leftfield line.

Drue Henton pitched the seventh and eighth for Washburn and shut out the Mavericks, allowing one hit with a strikeout. Curtis Hamilton pitched the ninth and set down UNO in order to end the game.

Kasel was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored and Gorges was 3 for 5 with two RBI. Hosey and Iversen also had two RBI.

The win was Washburn's first this year against a ranked team.
