Everybody had a hit and two Ichabods got within a hit of the cycle as Washburn defeated Truman 14-4 in eight innings Friday evening at Falley Field. The two teams will play two more Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

Washburn (14-25, 9-20 MIAA) had 21 hits in the run-rule shortened game and held an 8-0 lead through the first three innings. Starter Danny Cook shut out the Bulldogs through six innings of work before they got three in the seventh. He earned the win while allowing three runs off nine hits with seven strikeouts.

Wes Joy and Nick Barnes each got within a hit of completing the cycle. Joy tripled in the second inning to drive in two runs and then he doubled in the third. In the fifth he hit a two-run home run to left centerfield. Barnes got all but the triple as he doubled in the second and singled in the third and then he blasted a two-run shot in the seventh.

Every Ichabod in the lineup had a hit with Barnes leading with a 4-for-5 effort. Joy went 3 for 5 and drove in four runs and Joe Hosey and Luis Beltran Lopez each had three hits as well.

The Ichabods started off strong with three runs in the first and four more in the second. Lopez, Dane Simoneau and Cameron Kasel each had RBI hits in the first and Joy's triple drove in two in the third. Joe Hosey followed with an RBI single and then he later scored on an error.

Tyler Blankenship led off the third with a home run, his first of the year and one of three on the day for Washburn.

WU scored twice more in the seventh off Barnes' homer and then invoked the 10-run rule in the eighth. Brian Gorges led off with a triple and then Lopez drove him in with a single. Simoneau and Kasel then each singled and Nick Barnes later hit a single to drive in Simoneau and end the game.

The Ichabods had 12 extra-base hits with seven doubles, one short of the school record.
