Lady Blues sweep Dowling to win 10th straight

OAKDALE, N.Y. - Second-ranked Washburn swept its third straight opponent and improved to 10-0 with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-20, win at Dowling Friday evening at the Dowling Hilton Garden Inn Invite. The Lady Blues will wrap up action in New York with a match against Bentley Saturday at 11 a.m. Central Time.

Monica Miesner once again led Washburn with 12 kills and a .400 attack percentage. Molly Smith led with eight digs and Kate Hampson had 27 assists. Breanna Lewis led the team above the net with five blocks.

The Lady Blues hit just .204 as a team but held the Golden Lions, fellow NCAA national tournament participants in Topeka last year, to a .090 attack percentage. Twenty-four of Washburn's points came off DC attack errors and seven of them came from WU service aces. Miesner led with four of them.


Notes
- Monica Miesner moved to eighth in career kills at Washburn, now with 1,336. She passed Becky Hanish, who had 1,333 from 1997-00. She also moved within nine digs of catching Anna Cianciarullo for fourth in WU career history. Miesner has 1,522 and Cianciarulo collected 1,531 from 1995-98.
- Washburn improved to 1-0 against Dowling in the first meeting between the two schools.
