Ichabods erase 18-point deficit but can't hold on at Nebraska-Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - Four Ichabods scored in double figures and they came back from an 18-point deficit but they couldn't hold on in a 93-88 loss at Nebraska-Omaha's Sapp Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

Washburn fell to 10-8 and 6-5 in the MIAA while the Mavericks jumped to 13-5 and 7-4 in the league.

DeAndre Eggins scored 24 points with three 3-pointers and Darnell Kimble came off the bench to score 19 points off a 7-of-10 performance. Lekheythan Malone scored 17 and Paul Byers had 13. Eggins led the Ichabods and was one rebound short of a double-double with nine boards.

The Mavericks led by 18 at 10:18 of the first half and they were up 54-41 at halftime. They led by as much as 13 in the second half before Eggins made a lay-up and a free throw at 6:29 to give WU a 77-75 lead, its first of the day. UNO jumped back ahead and led by as much as eight down the stretch. Eggins made three straight free throws with 20 seconds remaining to pull WU within three but the Mavs followed with two more free throws to hold on.

Washburn shot 44 percent while UNO shot 58 percent, the highest percentage allowed by WU this year. WU won the rebound battle, 38-28 and Paul Byers had five rebounds to give him 503 in his career. He became the 14th player to reach 500 career rebounds at Washburn and just the second to get 500 rebounds and at least 75 blocks.
