TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn's
Dani White went a combined 6 for 7 with 6 RBI in a Lady Blues sweep over Bethany as Washburn took game one 7-2 and winning the nightcap 8-0 in six innings as Washburn collected 13 hits in each of the games. Washburn (6-13) will be in action this weekend at the Missouri Southern/Teri Mathis Memorial Tournament.
In the opener, Washburn jumped out to a 4-0 lead after
Britny Cushing picked up her first collegiate hit driving in two runs with a single to left. White singled to center scoring both
Tish Williams and
Ashley Shaffer. The Swedes cut the lead in half after scoring two in the top of the fourth, but Washburn put the game away with three more runs in the fifth capped by Shaffer's 2 RBI double to center scoring Cushing and
Roxanne Longoria.
The Lady Blues pounded out 13 hits in the opener with White's three hits followed by Williams,
Ashley Podschun, Cushing and Shaffer each collecting two hits each. Samanatha Farris (3-5) picked up the win allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts in six innings of work.
In the second game, Washburn's
Kayla Long (3-6) allowed one hits in five innings of work and the Lady Blues had 13 hits for the second straight game in a six-inning, 8-0 win over the Swedes. White led the offensive attack for Washburn going 3 for 4 with 4 RBI, including her fourth home run of the year and her 35th of her career, trailing
Brooke DeVader's 38 career home runs in the Washburn record books.
White, Williams and
Jessie Batres all doubled as Washburn scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings turning a 1-0 lead into a 7-0 lead.
