Ichabods roll to seven inning win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Brett Sorensen went 4-for-5 with 4 RBI and Dane Simoneau knocked in four runs to propel Washburn to a 12-2 seven-inning win over Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon at the Drury Invitational. The Ichabods (6-5) scored five first inning runs and never trailed in the run-rule shortened game.

Travis Ice led off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced to second on a single by Thomas Holiday. Sorensen drove home one with a run-scoring single and Simoneau cleared the bases with a three run home run to make it 4-0. Luis Beltran Lopez knocked in Brian Gorges later in the inning to make it 5-0.

Missouri S&T scored one run in the top half of the second to make it 5-1, but the Ichabods responded with four more runs in the bottom half to blow the game wide open at 9-1. Holiday was hit by a pitch and later scored on an error. Simoneau knocked in his fourth run of the game with an RBI single. Lopez added an RBI double and Cameron Kasel added a sacrifice fly to make it 9-1.

The Miners added another single run in the top of the third, but Washburn got that run right back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double from Sorensen.

The Ichabods ended the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, making it 12-2. With two runners on and two outs Sorensen smacked a two-run double to right center, his second extra base hit of the game.

In addition to Sorensen and Simoneau, the Ichabods got two hits apiece from Holiday, Gorges, Lopez and Iversen, with Lopez driving in two runs.

Danny Cook (3-1) tossed five innings, allowing five hits and two runs with three punchouts to earn his third win of the year. Ryan Faflick pitched two shutout innings in relief allowing one hit.
