SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods plated three first-inning runs, but couldn't hold on as they fell 8-4 to Drury on Sunday afternoon in the finale of the Drury Invitational in Springfield. Washburn led for most of the game before the Panthers rallied to tie the game in the seventh and score the go-ahead runs in the eighth.
The Ichabods (6-6) got things rolling early wth three runs in the top of the first.
Travis Ice led off the game and was hit by a pitch. He scored when
Wes Joy roped a double to right center to make it 1-0. After
Brett Sorensen was hit by a pitch and Vicente Vieyra was walked, Luis Beltran Lopez singled to right center scoring two for a 3-0 Washburn lead.
Drury (8-7) cut the lead to one with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Tyler Goss homered and Bret Gallion had an RBI single for the Panthers. The Ichabods plated one run in the sixth to push their lead to 4-2.
Dane Simoneau was hit by a pitch leading off and later scored on an RBI single from
Cameron Kasel.
Drury tied the game at 4 with single runs each in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. The Panthers took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning.
Curtis Hamilton gave up four runs on 10 hits in seven innings, but received a no decision, while striking out five.
Chris Contee (0-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs in a third of an inning.
Eldon Little came on in relief of Contee and gave up one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Washburn finished the game with four runs on seven hits with two errors, while Drury pounded out 14 hits and scored eight runs.
