TOPEKA, Kan. -- Washburn dropped a pair of MIAA games to Central Missouri on Friday afternoon at Falley Field. The Ichabods rallied from a 7-0 deficit in game one, but were unable to hold the lead in an 11-8 loss. The Mules completed the doubleheader sweep with a 6-1 win in the nightcap.
Central Missouri (24-9, 15-7 MIAA) jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings in game one. The Ichabods (15-18, 8-12 MIAA) rallied to tie the game with four runs in the third and three in the fourth. Washburn was aided by four UCM errors in in the two innings. Washburn took the lead in the sixth when
Wes Joy drove in Luis Beltran Lopez. The 'Bods got the first two hitters in the seventh to strike out looking, but the Mules rallied for four runs with two outs to earn the victory.
Eldon Little (0-1) took the loss for WU in relief of
Curtis Hamilton, who allowed seven runs, five earned, on 10 hits in six innings. Nick Phillips (3-0) got the win in relief for UCM, while Chris Matlock recorded the save.
Travis Ice led the Ichabods going 3-of-4 at the plate with two RBI. Lopez added a pair of RBI and
Dane Simoneau had two hits.
Central Missouri took an early 1-0 lead in game two only to have Washburn tie the game in the third on a throwing error by the catcher. Central Missouri took the lead for good in the fourth with a single run. The Mules added a single run in the sixth and three in the ninth for the 6-1 win. The 'Bods were held to two hits, while committing three errors in the field.
Andrew Miller (2-3) took the loss allowing three runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
