TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Ichabods were swept by Fort Hays State in an MIAA doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Falley Field. The Tigers won the opener 4-1 then completed the sweep with a 12-4 win in the nightcap.
Fort Hays State (26-20, 18-14) plated a pair of runs in the first and third innings of the opener for the 4-1 win. 
Dane Simoneau knocked in Washburn's (16-21, 9-15 MIAA) only run of the game with an RBI double in the third. He finished the game 3-for-3 as the Ichabods outhit the Tigers 9-7.
Joel Ricketts (4-4) allowed four runs on seven hits in a complete-game effort, but was tagged with the loss. Eric Gilliland (8-5) got the win for Fort Hays State allowing one run on nine hits with five strikeouts in six innings. Mat Atkinson pitched a perfect seventh for his eighth save of the season.
Fort Hays State jumped out to a big lead in game two and coased to a 12-4 win. The Tigers plated seven runs in the second inning and led 8-0 before WU got on the board. 
Thomas Holiday scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to plate the Ichabods' first run. The teams traded single runs in the fifth before the 'Bods scored two times in the sixth. 
Brett Sorensen had an RBI triple and 
Brian Gorges added a sacrifice fly. The Tigers scored two runs in the seventh and one in the ninth for the 12-4 final.
Holiday finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Sorensen (0-3) was 2-for-4 at the plate, but was tagged with the loss after giving up five runs in 1.1 innings of work. Kent Williamson (6-2) tossed 5.1 innings giving up four runs on five hits to earn the win for FHSU.
