PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods split the final two games of a four-game series at Pittsburg State on Saturday afternoon. The Ichabods fell 2-0 in the opener, but rallied for a 7-6 win in game two to earn the split.

Pittsburg State (12-32, 9-21 MIAA) walked off with the win in game one thanks to a two-out two-run home run. The teams were locked in a pitcher's duel until the seventh when the Gorillas hit the game-winning home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Travis Ice and Vicente Vieyra had two hits apiece to lead the Washburn (18-23, 11-17 MIAA) attack. Danny Cook (3-4) was the tough luck loser giving up just the two runs on nine hits, while striking out seven in 6.2 innings of work.

Washburn came from behind in game two to earn the split. WU scored one run in the first on a Vierya RBI single for the early 1-0 lead. The Gorillas plated four runs in the third to take a 4-1 lead, but the Ichabods tallied four runs of their own in the fourth to regain the lead for good. A pair of two-run singles by Ice and Wes Joy provided the go-ahead runs for Washburn.

WU added two key runs in the seventh. Thomas Holiday led off with a triple and scored on Brett Sorensen's RBI single. Sorensen later scored on Luis Beltran Lopez's single to right center to give Washburn a 7-4 lead. PSU plated two runs in the eighth, but the Ichabods held on for the one-run win.

Dustin Holthaus (2-2) tossed a complete-game to earn his second straight win. He allowed six runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out five.
