TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods withstood a two hour rain delay and rallied in the late innings to complete a doubleheader sweep of Truman State on Saturday afternoon at Falley Field. The Ichabods scored four times in the eighth for a 10-8 come-from-behind win in game two after a 7-0 win in game one.

Washburn (21-25, 14-18 MIAA) cruised to a 7-0 win in game one behind a stellar outing from starter Danny Cook. He tossed a complete game five-hitter with six strikeouts to earn his fourth win of the year.

The game was scoreless through 4.5 innings when the 'Bods broke it open scoring six times in the bottom of the fifth. Wes Joy started the scoring with a two RBI single. Brett Sorensen added a run-scoring triple as well. Joy led off the sixth with a solo home run to give WU the 7-0 lead. Joy finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Game two got off to a shaky start as Washburn trailed 5-2 after two innings, but the Ichabods rallied to tie the game with three runs in the fourth. Sorensen blasted a three-run home run, his second in as many days, to right center to knot the score. The 'Bods took a 6-5 lead in the fifth on a Calvin Iversen RBI single.

Truman (11-40, 7-29 MIAA) tied the game in the top of the sixth before play was halted due to lightning. During the lightning delay the heavy rains came and the game was delayed 2:09 until play was able to resume.

When play resumed the Bulldogs took an 8-6 with two runs in the top half of the eighth inning. Washburn rallied with four runs of their own in the bottom half to take the lead for good. Sorensen had a two-run double, Dane Simoneau had an RBI double and Luis Beltran Lopez added a run-scoring single.

J.P. Verhulst (1-0) came on in relief in the eighth inning and earned his first win of the season. Eldon Little pitched the ninth for his fourth save of the year.

Sorensen finished game two 4-for-5 with a double, home run, two runs scored and five RBI.
